Yes, the portguese woman played better and better, having a bit of confidence. But shame Emily couldn't have snuffed out all hope earlier on.

We're now at 5-2 though in the second....

I can 'feel' Paul's smile from here.....

Emily played an excellent tie-break (served well, on the front foot, only one very dodgy drop shot choice, gave her opponent no chance)

Was a bit messy in parts, she's still committing way too early to taking the backhand return on the rise on the ad side - ends up fluffing a bunch that are deeper than anticipated - in particular; but also exposed her opponents weaknesses quite well and was pretty solid up at the net.

Shaken off some rust and hopefully good prep for doubles.

Not a great looking week in store in doubles. With Bhosale withdrawing, she's playing with Akita who has a low ranking. They are unseeded and play two decent youngsters in round 1 with the second seeds in the QF.

The 25k+H Beth is in is full of byes.

Doubles draw (Rankings as at 27/09)

Akita played singles and doubles in the same three tournaments as Matilda in South Africa - 1 win and 3 losses in both singles and doubles - all main draw
Rutuja only withdrew last Wednesday.

Emily on court, and there is an ITF stream. *2-2 after a break each

Superb cross court backhand return from Em to take the first set 6-4.

Takes the first set 6-4, which is 4 breaks to 3. The breeze has picked up since the start of the match, and it looks difficult to serve.

Flip of yesterday. Daria reigned in the errors and came through quite comfortably in the end, Em losing 4-6 6-1 10-2.

Not a surprise really. Wasn't Daria a big prospect a couple of years back but suffered a bad knee injury and Svitolena paid for the surgery? Or do I have completely the wrong person?
