I'm guessing Harriet is a late repairing for Hao-Ching Chan? Chan's sister and usual partner, Latisha, withdrew from their SF in Chicago last week reportedly feeling unwell.
Excellent that Harriet is in the doubles. Would do Emma the world of good to get some doubles in to improve her net play, pretty sure she could've got a wc but I can only assume her focus in the next few weeks is to try and lift her ranking to circa 100

Longer term yes re Emma, but not right here, right now. And maybe not until next year. Agree excellent for Harriet.
I wonder what the cut-off was this year. Always difficult to judge when so many enter on their singles rankings.
I suspect Harriet & Chan can't have had much to spare. Using Harriet's very slightly better singles WR 151 that would be a CR 171 which strikes me as high for getting into a Slam. Heather+ would be comfortable if you used Heather's singles ranking.
181 was cut off, they were 4th bottom. Harriet needed a partner 25 or better so she lucked out with Chan
Hopefully both her and Heather can get through a couple of rounds. Harriet is in that awkward position where she is too good not to play singles but not quite good enough to manage both. I would imagine it's too much of a risk to enter doubles at lower ranked tournaments. Getting knocked out early in singles but having a good run in doubles and consequently missing the next tournament would not help her singles ranking.
I suspected that it would be that close. No chance for any of our other women doubles players in getting into slams, with their rankings over 200 on their own.
