The 3 LL spots went to the players our girls beat, and individually, they look to be in far better positions:

Tomova vs Davis
Kucova vs Li
Sherif vs Kalinina

Emma will likely be on one of the 3 main courts, and Brady did look in a bad way vs Ostapenko 10 days ago, but if she is ready, then it's obviously a very tough prospect. A Birmingham rematch for Harriet where she lost narrowly, and it's always hard to tell with Samsonova. I doubt any of them will be the betting favourite, whereas they all might have been had they drawn the respective opponents of the players they had just beaten.

Apparently Emma's match is second match on Louis Armstrong on Tuesday

Like AV, I expected something like that once this meeting was set up.

I sometimes think that folk get overconcerned about Emma but I must admit that I was hoping for a more ho hum draw on a rather lesser court to settle into the MD.

But hey here we are, and Brady's fitness must be in a bit of doubt. She at least can't be as match sharp as she would like. A fully fit and sharp Brady I suspect would be too much. But in this case, ?

There's going to be far more pressure on Brady than Emma.
Of course, Jen is older and used to it.
But Emma has nothing to lose here and Jen is the overwhelming fav on rankings and it's her home tournament, with a lot of press focus.
Emma's got a very decent chance
She may lose but i certainly don't think she'll choke and blow it.

5  ladies is the most we've had in the main draw since 1987. when we also had 5. Anne Hobbs was the best reaching the 16 and that included a win over Annabel Croft in the 2nd round. In 1984 we had 6 players and only Virginia Wade managed a win. That  year was her last appearance in the US Open.

Brady's form since the AO does not justify her high seeding. Since then she won 6  matches and lost 8 matches. That includes 2 retirements and a walkover.

Juvan was the second lowest ranked direct entry prior to qualifying, WR 107 at entry date, ahead only of Venus Williams who of course has since withdrawn.

I guess might be better to play her without her having come through qualifying ( though the heat doesn't seem much fun ).

Juvan had a surprise win in the 1st round at  Wimbledon over 9th seed Belinda Bencic. Not to be underestimated .

Harriet has a tough draw in general. If she beats Garcia she would most likely play Rybakina and in the 3rd round Halep(if fit,)  or Giorgi.

Jennifer Brady was forced to retire from Roland Garros due to plantar fasciitis and a bone bruise in her foot. The injury had caused her to give a walkover in the 2nd round of Rome. She then missed Wimbledon, returning to play the Olympics and Cincinnati, where she retired in her 2nd match against Ostapenko. There's a short YouTube clip from near the end of that match, with Brady hobbling around between points and receiving treatment from the physio. That was on the Wednesday.

Emma's chances pretty much come down to how fit or not Brady is. In her last match she had to retire and could hardly walk. If Brady is fit she should beat Emma. Whatever happens this is another good test for Emma on another show court. let's hope her nerves can hold out.

Katie faces an opponent on a pretty decent run right now and someone who is very dangerous if her game is on it. However, she can blow hot and cold and Katie has a chance if she plays to her best and serves well.

Harriet faces a Garcia who is a pale shadow of the player from a few years ago. Tough but winnable.

Heather really ought to win her match. This is a very decent draw.

Jo faces a player whose game is absolute garbage right now. Mladenovic is generally completely hopeless most of the time. The big question is can Jo stay fit enough to last the whole match. If she can I think there is every chance she will win this one.

I'd be very disappointed if both Jo and Heather don't win and I think one of the others will make it. Any more would be a massive success.
