(you are probably all too young to know the catchphrase I am referring to there, still never mind, just shake your heads and say, "poor old dear, the marbles are going".
Adam Lownsbrough is through to the final qualifying round !
The most amazing result yet in British tennis:
A Lownsbrough bt M Ryderstedt [Swe][1] !!!
But...
He didn't actually play the match, Ryderstedt was moved into the main draw from the alternates list this morning and Lownsbrough got a walkover !!
Adam plays a Spaniard Oscar Burriez for a place in the main draw.
I agree with GC77, we really should predict the number of points Adam manages to win, however, sadly we have no means of knowing how many he actually does manage to win !!!

Of course it counts as a double bagel, and yes you are right he regularly quits on his stool whilst staring a db in the face.
What a clown!!
Anyway onto more important matters and well done to our guys, although I expected them both to win, any win in a challenger is a solid 5 points so not to be sneezed at.
Sadly they got thrashed 6-2, 6-1 in the doubles rd1 despite being 4th seeds. Hopefully that isn't a sign of things to come for rd2 of the singles today.
Rd2:
R Bloomfield [GB] v D Marrero [Esp]
Preview: Richard would probably have been expecting to play the 3rd seed Ben Becker in rd2 but he lost to 25 year old David Marrero-Santana, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 [slightly bizarrer scoreline !]. Marrero is ranked 315 and his 2006 highlights to date include reaching a 10K final, semi and quarter-final in Spain. Hopefully Richard can take advantage of this stroke of luck, normally I'd expect him to win this match but it's on clay.
M Lee [GB] v L Burgsmuller [Ger][2]
Preview: The 30 year old German veteran has been as high as 65 in the rankings but has now slipped to 148. He has wins over Henman and Schuettler on clay in the past. He had an almighty struggle in rd1 against the big-serving Frenchman Laurent Recouderc, just edging it 6-7[9], 7-5, 7-6[5]. Lee and Burgsmuller have played 3 times previously [though the last match was in 2002], Lee leads 2-1 on head-to-head. Lee won 6-3, 6-2 on grass in ATP Newport in 2001, 6-4, 6-4 on indoor carpet in the Bratislava Challenger quarters in 2001 and Burgsmuller won 6-3 6-3 in the world team cup on clay in 2002.
