As an aside, the betting sites are very optimistic about the GB players chances. Now, I think they've got good R1 draws - pretty much as good as could be hoped for.

BUT the prevalence of British betting is on show once again. I defy anyone to show me any value (for the GB players) in the odds below:

Arthur v Gunneswaran - 2.1 v 1.66
Stu v Dudi 1.61 v 2.2
Ryan v Uchiyama 1.40 v 2.75
Jack PJ v Menezes 4 v 1.22
anton v will 1.04 v 13
Felix v Petrovic 2.37 v 1.53
Aidan v Dellien 1.44 v 2.62

 looking ahead in the draw though, Ryan and Stuart would be great in round 2 and could well happen. Rd 3 Laaksonen might await, if I am reading the draw correctly

Anton or Will could play Taberner or Collarini, winnable for Anton, then Zapata Miralles or TOmic. 

And Aidan, after Dellien, could play Domingues or Daniel Masur, before running into Stebe, Ofner or Kuznetsov.

 

I feel that Ryan/Stuart, Anton and Aidan all have a chance of actually qualifying here, maybe Anton would be my most likely, then Ryan then Aidan, then Stuart (I think Ryan would beat him H2H). 

 

3 would be nice but highly unlikely - but  I am going to put my neck out and say we will get one mens qualifier this week

Stuart? My lad Stuart? A chance of qualfiying? But he's barely ever played on grass and is only 550 or so, which is a fair ranking, it seems.

I give him zero chance of qualifying. (That'll give him a boost )

You haven't mentioned our 2002-ers, both of whom have more chance of qualifying than Stu, in my view (although that's not difficult in that I think he has zero )

 Felix , Jack PJ and Arthur are all good prospects, I just dont see them getting anywhere near qualifying to be honest! My thinking on Stuart was if he plays Ryan P, one of those could qualify. By then he would have 2 matches and be well experienced on grass! Dudi Sela would be tough in round one though, so maybe highly unlikely!

 

Ok then, Anton, Ryan and Aidan in that order...

 

PS not many players at this level have played much on grass if at all so reckon it probably applies to half the field - but, yes, Stuart, I was getting a little carried away!

 Yes, absolutely. And Ryan is certainly in the mix. 

I wasn't over-playing the 2002-ers' hand - I certainly don't think they'll qualify ! (although a person can dream... smile)

But I think they have more chance than our Stu, that's all smile 

Currently brightening up a bit in London so looking good.....

NB It'll be interesting to see if Anton gets a bit tight in this match - he's played so far as the big underdog - the swinging gun with nothing to lose and only glory of beating a way higher ranked player - but he's so clearly the favourite here, which he wouldn't have expected. This'll be the first time it's this way round, and on a very important stage.

And likewise Will Jansen - who was also the underdog - certainly stepped up against Nolan and obviously liked that status too.

Annoying that you can watch, but only through a betting app/site. Why Wimbledon can't put the basic streams on their website.

 Yes, and Anton does look a bit tight. Sprayed some balls for no good reason. 

Will definitely likes grass. Likes coming in. As you say, decent technique. And lefty.

Well, Will started off that set, going about his business very calmly and clearly, and - most importantly - not trying to overplay.

Towards the end, he got a bit more fired up (he can be VERY dramatic ) and all to his credit.

As Anton really did look tight and a bit confused - serving double faults, unforced errors, all a bit on the back foot.

Will took the first set 6-4
