I think this tournament got missed - Jodie Burrage is playing in the first round against Akita of Japan - second on court on Tuesday morning; she is seeded second for the tournament.

L32: (2) Jodie Burrage WR 247 (CH 233 in June 2017) vs Shiho Akita (JPN) WR 403 (CH 221 in May 2017)
No doubles for Jodie this week although her title partner from last week, Paige Hourigan, is in the doubles field. Maybe she just wants to concentrate on her singles this week and she is also due to play on clay in Alabama next week.

That was pretty terrible. Courts were very high bouncing, she had the power to absolutely smash through Akita but just sprayed errors all over the place. It's a bit frustrating being able to pin point the exact point Jodie gets overly down on herself and you know it's away. Really needs to work on that mental side and not allowing her frustration to completely take her over.
Shame, there were big points on offer these two weeks. But onwards and upwards, hopefully! So much talent there. When she gets its right it's absolutely beautiful to watch.

It does feel like a missed opportunity. High seed both weeks, not the strongest fields you'll see on paper, bearing in mind she'd likely have just sneaked in to Prague W25 main draw last week, hard courts, new enhanced ITF points, but a net gain of only 2 points across both events. The fact she's 247, so touch and go for Wimbledon quals, and thus, could actually need a QWC, makes it a bit more frustrating as you would have thought it would be a decent opportunity for her to go on an extended run in one of the weeks and get that ranking nearer the 200 mark.
It's good that she has a W25 in the US next week (I think), so can quickly move on and another chance to accrue a few points at this key time of the year, but it will probably be tougher generally (field, surface etc.).

I agree. Main positive is that she isn't injured and is out playing. The mental side of her game needs some work. She's too hard on herself during matches I think. She has talent and fighting spirit but can they be harnessed together better?
What is the cut off date for Wimbledon qualifiers?
I love Jodie's tennis, and had a pound on her to be top 500-250-100 from when she was 16. But I don't think she's 'hard' on herself - she's self-indulgent.
I know it sounds cruel but she's not a kid anymore and it really is daft beyond belief.
Being hard on yourself is somehow complimentary (the 'I'm a perfectionist, therefore I get so upset when things go wrong' argument which is nearly always just an excuse. Which - some think - sounds good.
Because if you're a perfectionist, then just be perfect! And if you're not, try your damnedest to be perfect. Don't just do the normal work, turn up and then have a sulk when you're not playing very well.
Sorry, sounds harsh, but she needs a different style of coach (and/or parents). With a bit of tough love, she could be top 100, I believe.
