Hope all the players who know they will not be there have the decency to pull out before the qualifying draw is made.

Speaking of Halep, Spiceboy over on TF has confirmed she is out, so Paolini moves into the main draw. Might not affect Jodie, time will tell, but good of her to do it early so at least 2 players will benefit massively.

Um, that's exactly what Katie B didn't do a few years ago....

She had a back injury which kept her out for most of 2019 and probably couldn't afford not to collect the cheque.

I know and I was very disappointed with her decision. She is my favourite British player, but I still criticised her on here, for her decision not to withdraw and seemingly to pick up free money, but knowing she was blocking another from entry. She was at fault - but so was the system which encouraged her to do so. Going over old ground really, but still hope all the players do the decent thing.

I'm aware of the situation. I just thought we can't really say that about other players when one of our very own did that exact same thing and these other players may well be in the same circumstances (needing the money).

Oh totally, I just think when posting that, you need to acknowledge that one of our own did it!! smile It's all good. Maybe next year, Katie will finally get to play RG

I'm on the fence re withdrawals (with the exception of people like Yastremska and players in the top 50 that are making a good living). If player has got themselves into a MD or qualifying position through their results then why should they take into account other players who haven't managed the same. A young playerwill have sacrificed a lot to get to that position and might not get many paydays in their career.

Yes, I agree. It's hard enough to make a living out of tennis and if the system is set up so you are entitled to be in the draw and get a cheque, even if you know you're going to withdraw, (and especially for Grand Slams which are really make or break for players in terms of funds for the year), well, it's hard to point the finger.

And, although you might say, well Katie B has large LTA funding (approx 80k p.a., no?), she doesn't need to do it, I wouldn't really make any distinctions - the players have a short career, some will be better equipped for making a living after than others....

In short, it's not admirable but I wouldn't criticise someone (and, if the WTA/ATP don't like it, it's up to them to change the system, as they've already done re the 50% entitlement).

Actually, I have less problem with this than deliberately being based for tax somewhere else (as per Kyle, Evo, and tons of others) - and even that is perfectly understandable.

Noticed in looking for a mens list that there is a provisional doubles list for FO womens doubles.

It looks like Heather would be our only entrant with Blinkova as her partner, but this is subject to change ...

The entry list for doubles is updated:

https://www.tennisforum.com/threads/roland-garros-doubles-preliminary-entry-list-2nd-update.1381375/

Heather is still with Blinkova, Eden Silva is now at 64th in the list with Zimmermann. Hopefully Eden can get in?

Its perhaps worth reminding ourselves that the rules have changed since Katie did it. Players who have been out of competition for 30 days now need to have played in a tournament in the 3 weeks prior to their first match to be eligible for the 50% prize money on withdrawing. I don't know how you can have played in a tournament in the previous 3 weeks if you've been out of competition for 30 days.

Spiceboy reporting Haddad Maia 4 out and Jodie is 2 ahead so must be 2 out now, Katie 10 out now but not withdrawn yet
