Loads but.

My life as a dog
Whats eating Gilbert grape
Gregorys Girl
Dallas buyers club.

This year has been storming, still a few to work through but.

The Rider.... head and shoulders my favourite

Blacklanzzman.... absolutely cracking

The favourite ... purely for the performances of Racheal Wiesz, Olivia Coleman and Emma Stone in that order but all absolutely amazing. hard to believe Olivia Colemans performance could be bettered but Wiesz is amazing with less to work with.

Widows

Tough question, but as a Russell Crowe lookalike (or so I am told), Gladiator must be right up there.

My favourite film in the last 12 months has probably been Darkest Hour, for which Gary Oldman won an Oscar for playing Churchill. The political shenanigans going on during those few days remind me of the current political fiasco that is Brexit.

Also like "true story" films that show the fight against racism - Denzel Washington (one of my favourite actors) in Cry Freedom springs to mind. "Remember the Titans" is another Denzel Washington film. More recently, "Hidden Figures" telling the true story of three inspirational black women working for NASA in the early stages of the Space Race with Russia.

Like my Science Fiction as well. Matt Damon in "The Martian" springs to mind.

Put my list up quite recently. But I will add one more to my favourite "based on a true story" genre.

The Imitation Game

It is based on the true story of Alan Turing and his efforts to break the enigma machine in WW2. But you all knew that already.

What did you make of the Pride and Prejudice film ? I've never seen it

As a film it wasn't too bad, as an adaptation of the book it was terrible. It had to cut out too much of the story due to time and so you got none of the sublety that Austen is famous for. Also they had everything as slightly scruffy to make it more 'real' when the classes Austen wrote about would not have been like that. But as I said as a film it was quite good, the acting wasn't bad and the music was fabulous.

agree entirely about the film comments. would add that they broke other conventions of the time, eg night time visiting and talking in church, both were completely against the conventions and rules of the time. also missed out a few characters. Nevertheless good to watch and superb music.

Good but hard question.

Ingmar Bergman is widely seen to be among the greatest directors of all time, but really is not known in the UK at all. Many masterpieces, same goes for Fellini.

In english speaking world, I'd say may favs are:

Heat
Casablanca
Platoon
