In the Wimbledon play offs there is a wild card available for both men and women to the top ranked NCAA player to have signed in, provided they are in the top 100. Who is in line for them?

These seem to be the latest singles rankings, May 4th, presumably the June ones are due out this weekend or so?

In the mens, a reasonable number like Hamish Stewart, Jo Monday, Arthur Fery etc appear quite high up

The ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Mens Regional Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point were released for the 2022 spring season. The Regional Rankings include the Top-10 Teams, Top-20 Singles, and Top-10 Doubles for every region.

A fans guide: As another exciting collegiate dual-match season comes to a close, its already time for teams to look toward next season as they participate in the 2022 ITA Mens and Womens Kickoff Weekend Draft.

What Is It?

The ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft is when teams from around the country get the opportunity to choose which host site they would prefer to play at during the 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend. With many factors taken into consideration (travel, opponent, etc.), the Kickoff Weekend draft is always an exciting event that gives Coaches the power to choose where their team plays. With the 15 host sites already determined based on 2022 year-end rankings, the remaining teams will select where they play based on year-end finish starting with the No. 16 ranked team and running until all of the spots are filled.

I do love the way the US college tennis media channels are so active in supporting their players

We've got a lot of US college players involved at the moment and all the colleges with links to our guys are actively posting the good news about them - even those who are just alumni, like Henry Patten, not only active uni students

And Sarah Borwell is great at it too

It doesn't take that much effort and it seems to provide good publicity for the college, as well as support and a family feeling for the players

Sadly college tennis doesnt work out for everyone. Allegedly Joel Pierleoni has left New Mexico(Alex Maggs a rising Junior) and has decided to drop tennis and Uni altogether hmm Last saw him play years ago, tall for his age and seemed a really nice guy. Wishing Joel all the best for the future

Also allegedly Fran Franchi has left Mercer and plans to attend Uni in the UK next year. Sounds like she plans to continue to play and hopefully will continue enjoy her tennis.

Update CD reported on the Brit tours thread that Joel is playing at Paddington - my source is pretty reliable, so maybe hes changed his mind and will continue to play, which is great!

Former TCU tennis standout Cameron Norrie has advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Wimbledon Mens Singles tournament where hell face the 1-seed and no. 3 ranked player in the world, Novak Djokovic.

Went along to Paddington this morning - all three college players mentioned above won

As did Lui Maxted

Was very impressed with the progress Story has made -I remember him as a decent junior but he's really made strides - so much more power and good movement too

Lui also was looking pretty good - excellent movement, although less outright power

Finn played three games and then his opponent (Mischker) retired so hard to say....

Indy Spink was never a player I really rated and nothing's changed - she has a wonderful physique for tennis and good technique (and won her match easily) but just hits it as hard as she can down the centre and then refuses to run if called upon

Great to hear James Story progressing well. Brother Matt played for Memphis and was a senior when James a Freshman. Allegedly James didnt like the coach and the completion of the new tennis facility was delayed, so James transferred to S Carolina (Paul Jubb alumni). James vs Lui (TCU) could be an interesting match today??

Allegedly Indy was tipped to go pro (trained full time at Gosling where mother Julie is a coach) and plans changed. Not seen her play for a few years, but somewhat formulaic, always same three shots to start the rally, then freestyle. She won SEC Freshman honours three weeks in a row, played #1 and #2 singles, but was allegedly injured for a while.

Wonder if the women benefit less from 4 years of college tennis than the men, as more able to go pro at 18?? The list of pro players who went to college much longer for the men. IMO Emily Arbuthnot had a more aggressive game and was a better player before she spent 5 years at Stanford, but she was super academic. Wonder how Fery and Basing will fare there?
