L16:  (WC) Luca Nardi (ITA) WR 800 (CH = 785 last December - he's only 17) vs Liam Broady WR 170

Luca is the lad who Jack Draper beat and Paul Jubb beat in Egypt in the last few weeks.

Good opportunity even though the Italian beat (3) Sugita by 6-2 6-2 in R1.

Yes, I was going on about him being a potential banana skin in the Egypt thread. And I saw that score against Sugita. But given both Jack and Paul beat Nardi (although not A1 easily), I wonder if that score is more a reflection on Sugita than Nardi?

Very nice first set by Liam. Played well. Took the break right early on and then held onto his own serve without any real difficulty.

6-3

Another one like that, please, Liam

Great to see Liam's good form continuing. Must be close to taking out his CH ranking now.

Interesting match - Liam raced to a *5-1 lead, but it was a lot closer than the score reflected - Liam saved several BPs, and a couple of key games were very tight.

But Rod has struck back and got it back on serve, now *4-5, with Rod serving.

Liam slightly unlucky, he's been playing very well, missed a couple of aggressive shots by a fraction, Rod made a few amazing gets..... allez, Liam !

ADD: and then Rod sort of collapsed and Liam held tough, and yet another break, and first set to Liam

Enjoyed that.

Liam was an immediate break down, and then behind for the first half of the set.

And then suddenly ran off whole load of games on the trot (partly helped by Rod, but also coz he was playing well).

And hey presto

I turned on at the start of the 2nd set, saw Liam get broken immediately and swiftly turned off again. It worked.

Well done Liam. Another very promising week in progress.

Didnt see any of it. But he really is in great form. I wonder what sort of Clay court season he will play. Might play a bit more after having a good run out at the french last year.
