Week 10 - ATP 250 - ExxonMobil Open, Doha, Qatar (hard)

L28:  Jérémy Chardy (FRA) WR 64 (CH = 25 in January 2013) vs Daniel Evans WR 28 (CH = 26 last month)

It'll be Roger the Lodger (2) in the L16 for whoever wins that one.

Dan is 1-3 versus Chardy but won a few weeks ago 2 and 2 when he won the title in Melbourne

It is true that Roger hasn't played for a while, but I bet his preparation will have been very good and that he still has some hunger for the game. But Roger is now 39 and is the oldest player in the top 100 and 3rd or 4th oldest in the top 500.  At some point he has to start slowing down.

Anyway, if we obsess about Dan's chances against the Fed, Dan will be beaten by Chardy.

I know , life works like that. It helps to go out of the room for tie breaks i find.

First two games in Dan v Chardy have taken 20 mins or so, looking like it could be a battle.

Jez looking as though he's suffering a bit in the heat.....

But maybe he's just playing himself in....

Maybe the latter , Chardy is 4-1 and a break up 2nd set. Ive been to Doha many times around this time of year on business, it must be c. 90 degrees i would have thought, certainly mid 80's ?

And the 2nd set is gone, 1 hour 42 mins for 2 sets so far. 6 mins per game average so it is proving a tough old battle. I suspect Dan let the end of the set go to be on serve this set , lets see.
