They appear to be playing a second round, following almost straight on. Ms. Silva is back out on court already. Ms. Broady is then due up at the completion of the aforementioned match.
Real pity to see from a player not yet 31 yo, who 4 years ago had just fallen out of the top 100 after just about a year inside and who 3 years ago was still ranked WR 126
Yep, an unfortunate big decline - that WTA Monterrey tournament in early 2018 where she won a match and pushed Babos really close in R2 seems like a lifetime ago.
She's obviously had her share of injuries, but she's been pretty poor, relatively, for a long time now - a few bad defeats at the end of 2019, and even the GB 2020 exhibitions - you can take those results with a pinch of salt, but watching enough of her playing, she seemed as committed and motivated as anyone in terms of challenging calls, reactions (good or bad) at the end of matches etc., and if you take out the results against those will will usually lose 0/1/2-6 on the ITF scene, she was exchanging wins with 500-700 players Beth, Emily Ap, Freya etc. so her current ranking to me does look about right, perhaps more on the generous side, if anything.
A shame, as top 100 GB players are few and far between, but it's hard to see her even getting near the top 300 again at this stage.
Main draw out, and Jodie has drawn the 2nd seed, Marina Melnikova who has just recently turned 32. Just checked, and she was the player that Sam beat in the final of this tournament 12 months ago.
