It's just one event, and she can go home and work on a few things and prepare for 2021 etc. but that's a huge opportunity missed, and looks a pretty feeble effort too. A random MDWC in a relatively big event, and the (slight) pre match favourite (wouldn't be against the vast majority of the draw) against a LL who was 2-8 in her last 10 against top 300 players. This was also their 14th tournament of the year, so a reasonably full schedule, despite the obvious, and Jodie was higher ranked in the 2020 race.
Maybe I'm being harsh, and one defeat against an experienced top 200 player doesn't seem too bad, but to me, it definitely does feel the type of match you'd like her to be winning if she is going to push towards the top 150or so. I guess losing 9 of the last 11 games makes it seem worse.
I'm afraid Jodie remains flaky imho. Very low on a list of players I would want to have playing to save my life!
It was good to see how much it meant to her as well. Her first tour win since taking that Acapulco title at the start of March.
Flipkens up next - I'm grateful that there are streams available generally, but hopefully she'll be on the TV schedule tomorrow as it is so much better. Looks like it's a Sunday final, so I assume 4 L16 matches tomorrow, and the other 4 on Thursday, so there should be a decent chance.

That is a fair point, I don't think I would either, ha, and you can just imagine her flinging her arms in the air, looking at her coach when it's not going well, but there is something there, just very inconsistent, so it is a bit annoying. Plus it'll probably be back to W25s next year (maybe even quals) when matches against 150-200 players are worth 5 / 9 points, and barely any net gain.
Heather will move up one place, according to OER, and could move up further if she reaches the final. And unless Siniakova or Krejcikova win the tournament, she won't be overtaken.
(Might affect the predictions competition !)
Cheers, regarding the ranking TA, I thought there had to have been some sort of logic.
I'd personally make Krejcikova the tournament favourite at this point, she's had an amazing couple of months, relatively, and it has taken some very good players to beat her. I thought she was just going to be a doubles specialist, hovering on the fringes of the singles top 100, but she's really breaking through at the moment. Her match against Galfi follows Heather's on the TV stream tomorrow.
If heather wins her next match , she goes equal on points with naomi, according to live rankings. Who would get top spot in that case? Is heather playing for number one next match ?
in doubles this is!

live-tennis.eu disagrees with Coric, where I was looking. Checking the official rankings, Coric is wrong, and has wrongly credited Naomi with some extra points (looks like Heather's points !)
Naomi is WR148 on 584 points, not WR143 on 611 points.
Heather is WR165 on 530 points, with a lowest counter of 1 point from Birmingham WTA P700, so 55 points to make up.
There are 55 points for reaching the semi-final in Dubai, and 90 for reaching the final, so Heather needs to win one more match to tie Naomi.
Heather will go above Naomi, based on having more points from Grand Slams and WTA tournaments.
