Week 48 - Challenger 80 (€44,820) - Maia Open, Portugal (clay) - doubles

L16:  Carlos Taberner & Bernabé Zapata (ESP/ESP) CR 1685 (932+753) vs (4) Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliövaara (FIN) CR 268 (154+114)

A nice gentle opening encounter for the new partnership.  Let's hope they can make the most of it.

Do we know, anyone, if this is intended to be a single event partnership or longer term? Lloyd and Alex Lawson seemed to be doing ok but hadnt won an event, and presumably Lawson will be back in the States now with Thanksgiving etc

Lloyd had put on Insta a few weeks ago that the tournament in Italy would be his last this year. Clearly something's changed!

His bags also didn't arrive with him so having a rough day!

Cut off for AO Doubles maybe. Not sure where it usually is but if he is close plus the likelihood is that fewer will travel maybe he thought a few extra points would help the cause.

Is Lloyd close enough even for AO doubles qualies? My assumption was he didnt plan on playing any more but was then asked and thought why not!

He needs to win about 7 challengers to start making Grand Slams. There are no doubles qualies.

Lloyd + win the first set 6-3 and are 2-1 with a break up in the 2nd. Seem to be in control, as youd expect
