First set to Emily Appleton, 6-3, which was a fair score.
She was 5-2 up serving for it, and was broken back but, overall, especially from 2-2 onwards, Emily had the slightly better mix of aggression and being solid when needed.
And a good return on MP forces the error from her opponent.
Pleased for her.
As said, that's exactly the sort of match she should be winning. Hopefully, with her new 'zen' meditation and results like that, she can make a real bid for top 500 at least.
Didn't see the match, but as CD says, good to see her winning these type of matches if she is going to push on.
She faces a junior qualifier next, and last year's US Open girls runner up Yepifanova. Unfortunately, if she does manage to come through that one then she'll very likely face Haddad Maia in the QF, so unless there is a big upset, or retirement/withdrawal somewhere along the way, it's very hard to see her gaining any more than a measly 2 points this week.
Ali needs that point - if they can win again they're both quids in Haven't seen the rest of the draw so I don't know if they drew the short straw but getting Beatriz is not good as she's been on a roll recently.
