RE: General cricket thread

And they weren't taking risks so it had nothing to do with them thinking they're playing T20. I give them enough credit to expect them to know how to play 50 over matches even if it has become obsolete. Most, if not all of them, play Test or county cricket where it wouldn't be unreasonable to have a similar chase as they were given today.

England have no chance in the cricket world cup as the better players don't play any domestic 50 over cricket.

FFS Paulisi none of the other teams do either. Not a single player in the Indian squad has played a domestic 50 over in over two years and they will probably win the tournament.

I though England played some really good 50 over cricket in the summer season or am I misremembering?

Even the players have come out and said they don't play enough 50 over cricket.
They have hardly played and ODI cricket and have been rotated when they have and even the Ireland series fiasco was a B team.

Just looked it up.
3 matches in SA in Jan
3 matches in Bangladesh in March
NZ in Sept
Ireland in Sept

Bangladesh was a weakened squad. Ireland was a B team

You are misremembering. The only ODI series in the UK of note was NZ in Sept

Big matches this weekend as Spain play Jersey in two ICC T20 internationals on Sunday. Will be played on the World Record breaking ground in La Manga where last year Spain bowled out Isle of Man for 10 and won with 19.4 overs to spare, having hit the first two legitimate balls for 6.

Jersey are quite good, presumably you are not favourites? What is the standard of the Spanish team? Do you play on grass or artificial?

Jersey are currently ranked 24 in the world for T20 and are definitely favourites.  Spain however have been quietly climbing the rankings themselves and currently stand at 34 in the world.  The team is made up of expats and Asian players.  No native Spanish in the squad at all to the best of my knowledge.

The pitches at La Manga are artificial strips with natural grass outfield.  They did try and install grass pitches a few years ago and both Cricket Ireland and Cricket Scotland invested heavily.  But Covid ruined that as the pitches (and grass nets) were left unmaintained and became unusable.  Nobody seems willing to put the funds in to bring them back.

Just posted the results as Spain beat Jersey twice in one day, and the system has flagged my post as 'spam'. Sorry administrators. Over to you.
