Absolute collapse from Muguruza there, 3-0 *30-0 final set, crusining, then *40-30, broken, eventually got to 4-2*, but then lost the final 4 games to Collins. 2 DFs in the last game, and was basically relying on Collins missing.

There's obviously some surprise packages, but it's one of my least favourite L16 slam line ups that I can remember for quite some time.

Another real meltdown which, with mladenovic's, shows that lots of players have real problems closing things out, it's not just GB players, as has been mentioned.

With all due respect to the players concerned we're not looking forward to a Krejcikova v. Zhang final. Out of the top half hope Halep or Svitolina reaches the final , and from the bottom half  any of Jabeur./Kenin/ Kvitova.Jabeur won the juniors here so a final here would not look too out of place  It could be an all French final between Garcia and Ferro which would keep the French happy.

Kenin and Kvitova have made last 16 of all 3 slams this season, only 2 womens players to do so.

It shows how random it has become. No doubt due to covid 19 changing the schedules

First set only but both Halep and Bertens getting beaten easily by their unseeded opponents.

Absolutely amazing match from young Swiatek.

Only 19, obviously under-ranked on clay as she was the French Open Junior winner, she really just out-hit and out-played Halep, start to finish.

Swiatek unseeded won junior Wimbledon in 2018. In the process she beat top seed Osuigwe,,Burel, Emma Raducanu for loss of only 1 game and the also unseeded Leonie Kung in the final.Cori Gauff won the French juniors in 2018.

As before, have SO enjoyed watching Trevisan - she's just such an open, smiley, characterful person - having never won a round in a grand slam - to now be in the quarter final, and playing such tenacious and swirly lefty tennis.

Good on her, and yet more good news for Italian tennis

Just in doubles mind, as the SF was the furthest she got in singles. Excellent talent though and most of her success and titles breaking through came on clay. Stunning performance.

Swiatek reached the SF at RG in 2018, losing to Caty McNally. She's got quite a record on clay already.

The Trevisan run really is crazy though, as CD says she had never won a round at a slam before, 27 years olds at the start of next month, and just 5 weeks ago she lost 6-2 6-1 to that Gram... girl in the Prague 125k 2nd round. These are her results in 2020:

I always think that the last 16 is the most interesting in terms of stats, to see trends (32 is too many and last 8 too small)

Looking at the last 16, there are:

2 France
2 USA
2 Czech
1 Poland
1 Spain
1 Romania
1 Italy
1 Germany
1 Netherlands
1 Argentina
1 Ukraine
1 Tunisia
1 China

That's a far more balanced spread than we often have - 11 from Europe, 5 from outside Europe, a broad range of countries, but no Russians.

In terms of age, the spread is a little younger than normal (mainly because Serena is not there).

The oldest player is 32, only 3 are over 30.

However, only one teenager (age 19) and one other player age 21 (if you're looking at 21 and under).

Eight of the players are age 22-26 years old.

With the average being 26

2 qualifiers in the quarter finals.I wonder if this has ever happened before. With Svitolina winning easily against GarcIa no all French final.

 From the WTA Insider:

No.159

Flag of Italy

Martina Trevisan and No.131

Flag of Argentina

Nadia Podoroska are the first qualifiers to make the QF

since Yaroslava Shvedova in 2012. This is the first time since 1978 that two qualifiers have reached the last eight. #RG20
