great win for rich, should do wonders for his self confidence.
al does seem to have had a lot of retirees recently, i wonder why too.
he has had 5 players pull out/retire against him this year so far (huberger, pequery, bollieli, mankad and vico) last yera he had a good one too whne bagdahtis retired in the nottingham sf.

I think this post from Count probably explains Vico's retirement. The Italian had come straight from Cardiff with no time to practise on the courts and he was also probably exhausted.
Alex has been lucky with opponents withdrawing, it is unusual for a player to get so many wins via retirement - maybe his opponents are scared of him
I'm stunned by Bloomers' victory, I thought that on slower outdoor hard courts he wouldn't be able to outserve Elseneer but am happy to be proved completely wrong. That victory will do his confidence wonders, looks like he's coming into the sort of form he showed last autumn.
In a way I'm disappointed that Martin didn't beat big Arv - Martin's the upcoming player while Arv seems to be stalling
I think they are about an hour ahead. All I know is that Dorsch beat Peya. They were scheduled to be on before Alex so he should be either on court or finished. Richard was first on another court so he should be done. There never seems to be many results until evening.
That's a really good win for Alex, it was against Sweden's Michael Rydersted who's been in good form recently, qualifying beating Marray comfortably in the process and beating Vacek 3 and 2 in rd1. Boggo also beat Ryderstedt last year in the Helsinki Challenger in 3 sets indoors 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.
All the hard work Alex has been putting in on his game and fitness is now paying off as there's such a big improvement in the consistency of his results - the only time he's gone out early in a tournament this year was in Wolfsburg and that was due to a hip injury. In the past he's had long runs of defeats in the early rounds of tournaments especially on outdoor hard courts and that's not happened so far this year which is really great. Alex's results on the slower outdoor hard courts are really promising, looks like he's getting better on the slower surfaces.
