Weeks 35/36 - US Open, Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard)

It was a really fun match, lots of dropshots and variety. Kyle played and sustained a good level, Bublik impoded at points. Good win - shame he has to play Djoko next. Hopefully he can at least tire him out a bit!

BBC report today !! Really, and they still haven't corrected it. One of the main tennis reporters efforts too. Shocking really.

I'm struggling to see which bit I am supposed to be offended by: please help.

Mr Edmund is 25

... he does face a tough task.

He hasn't reached the third round of a Grand Slam in the last six attempts, making this the seventh

Mr Djokovic has won 17 Grand Slams

Mr Edmund and Mr Djokovic are due to meet in Round 2.

Not sure how he did this:

L128:  Cameron Norrie WR 76 defeated (9) Diego Schwartzman (ARG) WR 13 by 3-6 4-6 6-2 6-1 7-5  ban-woohoo.gif

Cam served 11 aces & five double faults to the Argentine's one & eight...

*****

L64:  Cameron Norrie WR 76 vs Federico Coria (ARG) WR 103 (= CH)

To complete the story so far of the top half of the draw:

L128:  Kyle Edmund WR 44 defeated Alexander Bublik (KAZ) WR 54 by 2-6 7-5 7-5 6-0

So pleased finally to see that result after going to bed at the end of the first set & spending the entire morning sorting out the agenda & background papers for a meeting on Friday morning - even though it's supposed to be a day off!

*****

L64:  (1) Novak Djokovic (SRB) WR 1 vs Kyle Edmund WR 44

NoDjo leads the head-to-head by 5-1, Kyle's only win coming in the last 32 of the Madrid Masters on clay in 2018 (6-3 2-6 6-3).  The pair last met in the Paris Masters last year, when Djokovic won in straight sets (7-6(7) 6-1).  There is no head-to-head for Cam & Coria.

I'm guessing it was re reaching R3 for the first time in 7 attempts. It seems quite recent that Kyle was reaching the SF of the Aus Open, let alone a R3, and I did wonder momentarily. But yes, it refers to his last 7 attempts starting from the US Open later on in 2018.

Saying "last seven attempts" would have better focussed on it being particularly a recent Slam issue while having gone further previously. A casual observer might take it that Kyle had never reached a Slam R3.

And don't forget Roland-Garros in 2017.  wink

Only one match playing so I'm guessing it's raining. Anyone who can afford to pay to watch have any idea when they're going to start?

Oh , sorry folks !!  I read it as completely ignoring he had reached a semi-final and was implying he had only every reached a 3rd round.    I always see Kyle as a 'former semi finalist'  (at AOT), not someone who only  reached  R3 once,  in all slams.

I just looked in on Prime, and it said rain delay. But the two courts I looked at looked dry, so maybe soon ?
