Week 32 - The Top Seed Open WTA International ($202K) - Lexington, USA (Hard)

Heather has drawn Jennifer Brady, Jo has drawn Bouzkova. They could play in Last 8.

Serena is top seed and will play Venus or Azarenka in round 2!

Bouzkova was Jo's last opponent before lockdown. That was when  Jo was affected by her knee trouble during the match.Never too sure about looking ahead to potential matchups unless they are in the 1st round., On a couple of other websites Sabalenka is seen as the potential winner.

It's a cracking field for the event level. Some of the biggest names in the sport, some of the most promising teenagers, and obviously the 2 main British WTA players. Looking forward to catching a fair bit if this in the evenings.

Sabalenka has won 3 of her last 8 events, all on hard, and all worth at least 700 points, and probably is in the better half, so she should be a main contender, although a potential R2 match with Gauff could be a banana skin.

They're 5 hours behind. Hopefully they don't have evening sessions starting at midnight.

Emily didn't manage to make it here from Palermo, perhaps not a huge surprise.

Tara and Emina have drawn a pair of local wildcards: Mattek-Sands and Sloane.

Hugely better CR than the local WCs

R1: Tara Moore & Emina Bektas (USA) CR 466 (233+233) vs (WC) Bethanie Mattek-Sands & Sloane Stephens (USA/USA) CR 1210 (20+1190)

60 points for a R1 win. Tara's ( & Emina's ) current lowest counter is 18 points ).

Amazon Prime, betting streams, or dodgy streams. I'm not sure of the actual schedule though, and whether they can play really late into their evenings.

I suspect Em didn't really intend to travel, but was keepig her options open. She was still in Palermo this morning, according to Instagram

Order of play finally out.

Heather 3rd on Court 2 where play begins at 3pm UK, so maybe 6/6.30ish for that.
Konta 4th on Centre Court, again starting at 3pm.

It obviously depends on how the prior matches go, but hopefully no direct clashes there. At least we know Amazon will cover it all, as back in the day, you'd be lucky if BT rolled out an additional red button stream.

Most of the bigger name matches are on the Tuesday. There doesn't appear to be any dedicated evening sessions, so hopefully play will be wrapped up not too much after 1am each day (that's generally speaking, not necessarily British focussed).

Is there any significance in refering to Heather by her christian name and Jo by her surname?  In other people's posts  on this tournament  Tara and Em are refered to by their christian names.

What possible significance could there be? Strange question

I got called out last year for referring to one player by their first name and another by their last name too......

So seemingly not strange question......cry

But, yeah, I'm with you - OF COURSE it has no significance, it's just because certain people have more catchy last names, or there's a lot with the same first name, or whatever.

Indeed, to me, I find 'Jo' a bit tricky because she's Yo-hanna and therefore I can't write Jo without thinking it's Yo, I hear Yo in my head as I write, which seems silly. So I always call her her JoKo which is YoKo which seems fine.
