I make it that Billy (with 3 seconds @ $3500 per week, a 4th $2500, and a 5th $2000) plus 5 $1k appearance fees has made $20k from the past 5 weeks in this event. Suspect he has never won that in his life!

With a guaranteed $3k this week for coming 12th at worst, he is set to earn at least $23k.

The $20k makes him the highest earning player on this series, I think someone posted that a couple of the ladies had earnt just under that (Naomi I think it was).

I'm really happy that Billy has benefited so much from this, I don't think anyone can begrudge him this windfall. This series has been a lifeline for these players. It might no be perfect but for something thrown together so quickly under these circumstances, it's been pretty damn good.

 Hear , hear!

And I do think it has a role going forwards - some will have seen me post around the idea that at ITF and Challenger levels we should move towards regional circuits as opposed to  the global mess; higher profile British events fall into that. I posted recently that satellite circuits used to work so well - 4 or so events in the same country with a Masters week at the end. The format may not be exactly the same (RR and MTB's) but the UK Pro Series and Classic is very much in the old satellite mold and I really do think they could be brought back for the benefit of all

When you compare it to his tour income of $39k. It really is a significant amount. Hopefully when the tour is back up the money will help him be able to support himself for a while and make tournament choices based on tennis and not necessarily on the costs.

Does he need one? if not a bit of extra top class coaching and/or some time with a sports psychologist, either way he probably has most of it allocated already.

Not sure if you know the Billy story.  But he used to travel around Europe from one futures event to another, in a Ford Transit which he had converted.  He would live, eat and sleep in the van. The only thing he couldn't do in the van was his laundry.  But that's another story altogether wink
