Week 25 - Special Event - Schroders Battle of the Brits - NTC, Roehampton, United Kingdom (Indoor Hard)

Yes, in case Jamie, or Judy, or anyone else looks at this forum - well done, really enjoying it.

As people say, have been dipping in and out, watching 15 mins here and there, or having it on in the background while working.

Really like Sam Smith - she's probably my favourite commentator.

And the little interview snippets with the players are great - far more personality comes over than the rather stilted end-of-match interviews.

The doubles has been quite intense too - obviously quite a lot of pride at stake, and good-hearted needle between the players.

I think it has felt like a British Masters and think it also could have a place in the calendar if the players supported it.

We are all often guilty of thinking it's about the Tours and the Ranking points (players missing Olympics or Davis Cup when none are offered) but events like these should be found a place. Laver Cup , also, is easy to dismiss but entertaining and popular.

If the powers that be used this situation to look at the calendar, particularly if ATP and wta join forces as one body, then finding maybe a space for national bodies or even regional bodies to hold events like this would get my support. If this had a womens 8 player field as well, recognising in future that covid might not be here and will allow more than one court to be used, then a British Masters would be a good addition to the calendar.

France had a similar event in 2008 to 2010 as this,

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Masters_France_%E2%80%93_Draw

I recall Spain also did, but cant find a link, and maybe italy, Germany also?

High quality tennis - Andy first set was excellent, Dan has got his game together and looks like winning the 2nd. going to be interesting to see how a MTB goes.

Fascinating contest but Murray's level and energy has dropped in the 2nd set after a blistering start. Dan looks fresh and fitter than I've seen before. A wonderful contest between styles. Very likely to be a set each soon.

Wonderful skills from Dan, he changed his approach in the 2nd to keep Andy out the middle as he put it. Used his volley skills to the max and had enough against a tired Murray. No doubt a fitter Murray probably wins with his powerful baseline style on this surface but none the less a fabulous match. Really enjoyed that.

You are not too far away when you win a set 6-1 against such a fit looking WR 28.
