Arthur had such a tough time health wise as well - he had heart problems, and a heart attack and by pass, got infected with HIV through the blood transfusion he was given and died eventually of pneumonia from the AIDs related side effects. And he was only 49.
He also captained the DC team, most notably when US played the final in Sweden (I am going to say 1984, but would need to check, maybe it was 85). Either way, he had Mac and Connors on his team - what a crazy team to Captain, Arthur the mild mannered polite chap he was and these two upstarts that basically decided Gothenberg was their time to go wild and tear up the tennis etiquette rule book.
Worth noting, Ashe and Okker played 25 times in their careers, Arthur won 17-8, twice in slams and Arthur won both of those.
