Rosie 'Rebel' Casals here, 5ft 2.5 ins and from a poor Hispanic background, made it in California. And even though I couldn't vote for Billie Jean, Rosie did play doubles successfully with her too for years.
Kormoczy was interesting, she retired from competition in 1964 to work as a coach for Vasas (the Ironworker Union's Sports Club) and act as the national tennis association's manager. After the fall of communism, she was decorated by new democratic governments in 1994 and 2003.
In 2007, she was posthumously inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.[4]

She is the only Hungarian ladies Grand Slam champion beating Shirley Brasher in the French final of 1958 and losing to Christine Truman in the 1959 final.
I hope Rosie gets through but I just had to vote for Judy tegart who is hardly ever mentioned these days. One of my first memories of watching tennis on black and white television was her playing against billie jean king. Such a close match. When I was a young girl playing tennis in the garden, no net, no lines, we just each pretended to be one of our favourite players and you had to be quick to be evonne Goolagong, second choice was usually Rosie Casals. Interestingly no-one ever wanted to be Margaret court or billie Jean. And no-one like Nancy richeys shorts so she was never chosen either.
Your latest poll has dug up so many tennis memories. Thank you

Glad you're enjoying it! Yes , these former player polls seem to stir the juices a lot for folks and certainly it is interesting reading lots of the information folks like Rosamund provide.
The mens starts tonight and players go back to 1963, so hopefully there will be many of your favourites there as well!
