Coronavirus - general, non tennis related

Knighthood for Chris Whitty and Jonathan Van Tam. Well done, at least, for being in position when a pandemic came along.

On another matter I hear Johnson saying that these that feel invulnerable should still be getting a vaccine because they could still be one of these that end up in hospital. I didn't hear mention that they could be someone that causes someone else, possible truly more vulnerable, to end up in hospital. But I guess your appeals to folk may be linked to your personal outlook on things such as selfishness and general consideration.

It's the possible effect on others that personally most means I have no time at all for these that don't have a medical reason for not getting vaccinated. And the direct and knock-on effects on the health services caused by all the people that directly get seriously ill or cause others to get seriously ill, mainly through their own actions or inaction

The Sue Gray report is out. Although it can't give details because the Met are investigating 12 (twelve) parties in Downing Street, the following line is as damning as it gets.

Its of course a matter for you, but you *may* think the prosecution case overwhelming and the defendants evidence obviously a tissue of lies

A masterclass in how to say they are guilty, without actually saying they are guilty.

Actually arguably the original unedited version is more ludicrous.

Folks may remember I posted a fair bit about my daughter last year and her pulling out after a few weeks at Edinburgh due to Covid situation.

Well, she went back last September, Im heading up this week to collect her for Easter. Shes had a fabulous year so far, loves Edinburgh, loves some close friends shes met , and she has a boyfriend as well who weve met and is a really nice lad. Glaswegian , but we cant hold that against him. Or so Im told!

Grade wise she seems to be top 2-1, edge of a first, although actually that is the thing that this year concerned is least. It was settling in and being happy. And she is.

The two of them and some friends have gone to see Stormzy at Glasgow Ovo Arena tonight , apparently not sold out, which shocked me.

But alls well and last years decisions seem justified.

I hope others, like Brittak (not seen him here recently!?) are seeing their kids having a good time as well.

And the best thing is we get to keep visiting Edinburgh for 3 more years as they do 4 year degrees! Haha.

ps the boyfriend is a Celtic fan but hes from a protestant family. Not many of those to the pound with that combo!

Having recently recovered from my first bout of Corona (my husband caught it at a concert and passed it to me) I was interested in the current variants BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron and wondered how worried should we be? Also I was hoping Covid would be more seasonal, like flu and although it may eventually become so, its not there yet.

Although the new variant seems to be spreading quickly, possibly because more countries have lifted restrictions and people are mixing more. Its not thought to be more lethal than previous variants, but possibly able to dodge some of the protection given by vaccination or previous infections. Those who are vaccinated and up to date with boosters are likely to have stronger protection against the variants.

Not sure if anyone else has done this, and not something to be proud of. I am taking a speed awareness course this evening - sadly, I got caught doing 69 in a 60 zone, although they only take action at ten percent plus 2 over in this neck of the woods, so I was 1mph over. Darn. Anyway, rather than the points I signed up for a speed awareness course, thinking I would need to take half a day off work or some such - but in fact it is now all online; it is still a 2 3/4 hours session from 6.15 to 9 pm, but it is much better and progressive than I expected.

I did do one of the face to face ones around 8 years back (so am a bad boy driver or did well to keep my nose clean, depending on the view point!) so no idea how this will compare content wise. But I need to pay attention and make sure I dont get points next time!

no, sorry - I put it in this thread because the change to online courses has happened as the working world in general has woken up to the use of technology for meetings etc, so the online nature of it is due to a change of emphasis caused by covid.

Sorry, that was the link - that the world has changed in many ways we dont think of... the speeding itself was my own lack of care and nothing to do with covid!
