Isn't Boris supposed to be flying to India sometimes in January or is that different?

 He's cancelled hmm

Yes  just read that on BBC news website.Apparently he is needed at home. Don't think he'll do a U-Turn over going to India.

The daily data on 5th January for the UK gave 60,916  Coronavirus cases. Excluding the USA this was more than double the daily total for any other country.

Could be the case. Unfortunately they don't tell us what these other countries are doing in the way of testing.

Certainly we won't be exactly comparing like with like with many differing test approaches. Though what's rather a big reason for having a test? - a fair chance of having covid.

That said, ultimately deaths will be the sad much more meaningful comparison, and the UK has been rising up the weekly deaths per capita comparisons ( recently headed by east European nations ) with the signs being it will rise further.

Whatever, with regard to cases, Brazil is now showing 3rd for Tusday's total new reported cases with 57,447 new cases. Then a big drop to 4th Russia 24,246.

Other countries are struggling as well. One of the few countries to hold a WTA tournament since the French, i.e. Czechia most recent daily number of  cases of Covid was 17,278. The population of the country is only 10719,000 approx. That is alot of cases for a small population.

Almost all countries in the Northern hemisphere are struggling.

A mix of the virus surviving longer in cold conditions, close contacts in the holiday period and a more virulent strain.

I mentioned a couple of weeks back about my colleague who had gone to Mexico. The whole family caught COVID. Wife who had it originally, young child, his mum and Dad and my colleague. My colleague has it worst and as well as 102 temperature, he has pneumonia now and just been taken to hospital.

My other colleague is also off work with it and anothers Dad is now in ICU on oxygen. Our team is only 17 strong. We are all working remotely but its impact is starting to be felt in terms of workload and more importantly everyones morale and health.

Most of our team is south east based apart from me and one other. But a lot are currently overseas, one in Poland, France, Bulgaria, canaries , Barbados , USA and my friend in Mexico - they are all non English by birth and went back early in the crisis to work from home or other locations. It seems to be our south east England colleagues who are being hit.

Take care all.

Might not make headlines in the USA for yesterday, but the US did become the first country to exceed 4,000 reported covid deaths in one day. Worldometer is showing 4,100 for Wednesday 6th January. I'm not sure how much coronavirus has been a priority for the outgoing administration lately!

I was surprised to see at least some of the protesters wearing masks in the pictures I've seen.

Perhaps that was more to hide their identity rather than Covid related. Those who have been identified should be facing some serious legal ramifications.

UK numbers seem to be stabilising/peaked. Easier to tell from graphs based on test date rather than recorded result date.

High numbers today, but that is the news years eve events kicking in.
Expect it to go back to 50k and then start dropping quite quickly.

Liverpool numbers are now silly with the exception of the city centre as the uni students are not there.

Good news about the approval of another vaccine today - Moderna. Hope that the distribution infrastructure can cope with what will be a rapid increase in the volume of doses available.
