Who is your favourite post 1968 and not currently ranked GB player? MEN - Qualifying Group 1

As a reminder, the qualifying round is for players who played singles at Wimbledon but did not win a match in this period. I have included a number of wild cards to bring the totals up to 45 for men and women.

There are 5 groups of 9 players with a random draw.

Those with the highest number of votes (with a maximum of 16 players) across all the 5 groups will qualify for the 1st round proper.

Please feel free to provide reasons for your choices along with any memories that you may have of them.

! am planning to close the polls at around 10.00 on Saturday morning.

I have voted for David Felgate. I do remember watching him play and of course he was Tim Henmans coach for a long while.

Yes he did - he would have been my second vote in this group

Gary Henderson was also a Yorkshire lad, he was close third for me!

Pauffers for me. Best match I saw him play was actually a training match. Team GB had brought about 40 players over to La Manga for a 2-week training camp and on middle Saturday they were playing 5 setters on clay. Neil lost in 5 sets that day to a young Kyle Edmund, despite dishing out a bagel in the opening set. Great match though.

My vote would also be for Neil 'Ice Man' Pauffley but I'm pretty sure he's still playing full time and has a world ranking.

Sorry yes you are right. I thought he had retired but on double checking now, I see that he has two ranking points from domestic futures events last Autumn. Looks like he hasnt played outside the U.K. since 2018 so I dont think he is a full time player.

Very much looks like he will make it through so I think I will leave him in as he seems popular with the forum although he is outside the criteria that I set.

Apologies

He still does have a rank - 1525 - but I believe is doing more coaching than playing these days.

Neil is mainly coaching now, but still competes occasionally, as noted above. Another one that I saw at Chiswick last year (lost to Mark Whitehouse in three)

One of Neil P's ranking points would have actually dropped off last week if it hadnt been for the freeze, the other in October. As that is 2019 gained, and 6 months ago, it is probably reasonable to call him an ex player for the purposes of this event - mind you Andy Murray could creep into that category also!
