Champion of Champions - Mens Event Match Two - Pete Sampras versus Roy Emerson - HARD

Match 2 sets up a game between two of the best grass players ever, but on hardcourts (like the ladies, clay is hiding away til later!).

This match is Pete Sampras who is 4th seed and won 14 slams, 7 of those on hardcourts, with 5 in the US and 2 in Australia.

Emerson was for a while the GOAT, with 12 slams to  his name, many during the 60's. 10 of those were on grass and 2 on clay, but he never played on hardcourt. His last slam was in 1967 before Rod Laver took over the GOAT status.

Pete Sampras is of course the American hero and will have the fans support. Who do you think, though, will win

Pete Sampras (born August 12, 1971) is an American former professional tennis player. His professional career began in 1988 and ended at the 2002 US Open, which he won, defeating rival Andre Agassi in the final.

Sampras won 14 Grand Slam singles titles during his career: seven Wimbledon Singles titles, two Australian Opens and a joint Open Era record five US Opens. He won 64 singles titles in total. He first reached world No. 1 in 1993, and held that position for a total of 286 weeks (second behind Roger Federer 310 weeks as No. 1 player), including an Open Era record of six consecutive year-end No. 1 rankings from 1993 to 1998. A right-handed player with a single-handed backhand, his precise and powerful serve earned him the nickname "Pistol Pete". In 2007, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Roy Stanley Emerson AC (born 3 November 1936) is an Australian former World Number One tennis player who won 12 Grand Slam singles titles, 16 Grand Slam men's doubles titles, and 2 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. He has 28 Grand Slam titles. He is the only male player to have completed a Career Grand Slam (winning titles at all four Grand Slam events) in both singles and doubles, and the only man to have completed a double Career Grand Slam in singles. His 28 major titles are the all-time record for a male player.

Emerson was the first male player to win 12 Majors. He held that record for 30 years until it was passed by Pete Sampras in 2000. He also held the record of six Australian Open men's singles titles until 2019 when Novak Djokovic won his seventh title. Emerson won five of them consecutively (196367). Emerson is one of only five tennis players all-time to win multiple slam sets in two disciplines, only matched by Frank Sedgman, Margaret Court, Martina Navratilova and Serena Williams.

Yes, the comeback has stalled. A pretty poor effort by a "champion".
