I see the huge backlash against Dominika Cibulkova (and husband) for seemingly 'persuading' a health official to list them as health care workers so they could get covid shots ahead of everyone else when it's not their turn. She claims it was a 'misunderstanding'....
"The quarantine worker was working at an Australian Open hotel. Players and staff staying at the Grand Hyatt during the entire quarantine period have to immediately isolate and get tested"
"The quarantine worker was working at an Australian Open hotel. Players and staff staying at the Grand Hyatt during the entire quarantine period have to immediately isolate and get tested"
this looks serious - BBC breaking news
Between 500 and 600 Australian Open players, officials and support staff will go into isolation after a worker at one of the event's quarantine hotels tested positive for coronavirus.
Thursday's play at the six warm-up events at Melbourne Park is set to be affected by the move, says Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews.
But Andrews said: "At this stage there is no impact on the tournament proper."
Players will be free to return to competing after a negative test.
The Australian Open, which was pushed back by three weeks to enable players to quarantine, starts on Monday.
A 26-year-old man has tested positive for Covid-19 - believed to be the UK strain of the virus - after working at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Melbourne's Central Business District, Andrews said.
This was one of the hotels where some of the 1,000 players, officials and support staff stayed to complete a 14-day quarantine period on their arrival in Australia.
Andrews said the 500-600 people there for the Australian Open were deemed to be "casual contacts" of the man.
Seemingly they all need to take a test before being cleared to play tomorrow. 62 matches on tomorrows schedule incl ATP Cup (50 below plus 12)

There are 50 matches on the schedule in Melbourne tomorrow and 5-600 tennis personnel now facing a test after a local man tested positive in player hotel. Difficult.
I was one who said that I didn't think the Aus Open shohld have gone ahead but I have been impressed with the no nonsense efforts to protect everyone and keep the event on course.
Hope there is no further fall out from this one case.
The Melbourne Park goings on are utter madness. To imprison 600 people because ONE might (the test is nowhere near 100% accurate) have cv19 is stuff dreamed up by the insane. Covid19 is going to be with us forever like other strands of coronavirus such as the common cold. Life really cannot go on like this any longer, it staggers me that it can be legal to imprison people in their hotel rooms for 14 days and now this on top. If you think any of this makes sense I hope you enjoy the misery that this is bringing to billions of people. The recovery rate from covid is over 99%.

Tiley admits that Tennis Australia is working with the ATP & WTA to find a way to finish the pre-#AusOpen events. It's possible that they can change the scoring format (4-games sets? match tiebreak 3rd set in singles?)
Gonna be interesting to see the schedule for tomorrow.

Australia have persued an elimination strategy. It is working better than the UK's one.
They were and are certainly after elimination in the Australian Open overall bubble of players, player's families and teams and officials and support staff including everyone who could contact them in these designated hotels - which was possible, and a question for now is how did the hotel worker contract covid? Understandably, having made the huge decision to progress with the AO, that remains their aim.
I'm no expert on the Australian covid policies overall but their covid numbers are extremely low.
