Coronavirus - tennis related wef 4th May

That sounds an excellent idea.

And a way to get preparations underway for Roland Garros too.

Presuming it is aimed at players between say 130 and  300 or so in the ranks, I would hope some of our Brits give it a go. Not sure how many fall in that bracket, Harriet?

The Austrian event of the two has supposedly been cancelled, so that's a bit of a blow if/when officially confirmed.

apps.derstandard.at/privacywall/story/2000119300582/wta-tennisturnier-in-poertschach-abgesagt

Translated- One week after the plans for a WTA tournament in Pörtschach am Wörthersee were presented, this has now been canceled. According to the Carinthian Tennis Association, it was not possible to implement the WTA requirements in the area of Covid-19 measures in the time available. A positive event approval notification from the competent authority was also not realistic.

Optimistic approach to the Aus Open next year.

"Five 'bubbles', 400,000 fans and full prizemoney at 2021 Australian Open"

I'll believe it when I see it. Sorry for being such a cynic.

Ha, no chance - it will end  up being later in the year, IMO. Or behind closed doors.

Looks like Rome is going to move earlier one week and follow straight after US Open.

Byes for those who reach semis in US Open.

Cinci then 2 weeks USO then 1 week Rome all back to back, 1 week off then French

Going to be tough and will be amazed if it means a) the spoils arent shared around and b) Nadal is going to sweep the French

Personally, I can't see how any meaningful circuit of lower grade tournaments can get going again.  Most countries / host organisations will require participants (especially internationals) to be tested for Covid before (or even again during) the event.  My understanding is that such tests are not cheap and few low grade tournaments will be willing to pick up the bill.  Similar to the reasons really that the lower leagues of football had to call it a day this year.

So here is one to get your heads around - with the new schedule announced above, the ATP had previously announced that the normal 12 month rankings would be used for qualification purposes for the Tour Finals

mobile.twitter.com/MichalSamulski/status/1294270369717727232

As such, Djoko, Rafa and Dominic Thiem are qualified for the O2 for certain

More importantly, for us, the Doubles would follow the Race within the year (as it is pairs and thus can only be in year as many pairs changed since March 2019). On that basis, it is confirmed that Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram are the first guaranteed qualifiers for the O2.

Well done to Joe!

Apparently the WTA are looking at increasing the Prague '125k' to a 128 player draw. Prize money would be as before, designed to replicate in the first three rounds a Grand Slam qualifying.
