Katie has someone who I've never heard of in R1. Fellow 20 year old Sofia Sewing.

I don't know her background and if she went to college or anything, but seems to have played sparingly in 2016 and 2017, only 2 events in 2018, before a much fuller schedule in 2019, largely on the W15 scene to build her current ranking. She did beat Katie Volynets in Q1 who I have heard of.

Sofia has played and beaten a few Brits before but all at W15 level. She beat Emilie in a final in Cancun last May, Sasha Hill in Monastir in February 19, and Emily Appleton twice in Ecuador, but those were way back in Dec 17. I would expect Katie to win comfortably if she is her normal self.

Indeed a US college player.

Won a 15k at Cancun in Jan where I remember the name from. Doesn't seem to be in the current roster.

The Optimist will know more.

Thanks both. Yeah, I did notice ELG when scanning those results, and I even dug out that old Cancun thread to see if there was any prior insight regarding her. That Volynets win does seem a bit of a suprise, but yes, it's one you'd like to think Swan would win, and hopefully she does.

I would hope Katie will win but I've a feeling it could be a bit of a needle match wink

Hmm maybe, but really it should be just a patch up for Katie smile

Well I hope Katie is up to the task, having been stitched up with a college player

I was waiting to say that the first set has been sewn up, but Sofia is on the board. *5-1.

And now breaks to love 5-2*

Very one-sided right up to set-point, but now it is the reverse

Reasonably comfortable in the end. Katie won the last 6 games to win 6-3 6-2.
