Oooh, that'll get the press excited.

As will jo versus kim.

Well I guess Kim has to get the first win of her comeback at some point.

Winners meet in round 2.

Both interesting draws. Heather has on/off played doubles with Tatjana and may have won here or Acapulco with her a few years ago? & of course, will Heather play, given her full on week this week?

And the winners of the two matches will play each other, which is an enticing prospect, as PaulM points out.

When was the last time two Brits met in a main draw wta tour singles match?

Probably Watson and Konta at Nottingham 2018.

Actually no, it was last years Nottingham when Maia faced Tara indoors.

I think it's: week of 10th June 2019 @ Nottingham, where (WC) Lumsden defeated (Q) Moore 6-3 7-6(3)

That's right SQ. Rearranged from the grass to the indoors, which looked as if it could have been Sunderland or Glasgow W25.

Yeah, only twice that I can remember with Jo winning both, the other was before my time. They met in the 2nd round at Nottingham and Jo went on to make the final, so hopefully that's an omen, although I'd take any win at this stage.

Assuming neither pull out, which I guess isn't totally out of the question, then it'll either be a first win in more than 6 months for Konta, or a first win in more than 7 years for Kim.

If Kim wins it will be revenge for the last time she played a British player i.e . when Laura beat her at the 2012 US Open.  That assumes by the way that neither player pulls out.

That is on the basis of her clay court and Grand Slam appearances of 2019. Based on recent performances she would not be seeded at all. On recent performances Heather is the one who should be seeded.

Mexico obviously suits Heather as she has won both Acapulco now  and Monterrey back   in 2016. In 2016 both Jo and Heather played Monterrey and Jo lost in the quarter finals to Kirsten Flipkens who Heather went on to beat in final. I hope Heather's form in Mexico extends as far as the Fed Cup.

I notice Jo is playing with Elina Svitolina in the doubles. 1st round opponents are D.Seguel(Chile)/ S. Errani(It). Heather not playing doubles.
