I must say that the optics of Tara retiring so much in so little time isn't good. Especially when she seems able enough to play doubles.
Yes, and she is entered into the doubles again this week. It is all a bit strange and one does wonder quite why she is retiring in singles and then able to play the doubles.
R1: SWAN, Katie (GBR) 258 v SHAPATAVA, Sofia (GEO) Q 367 CH=186 2014
Sofia is Emily WS usual doubles partner - originally Emily was on the acceptance list but was a LWQ on 20 Feb. I don't know if that means Emily is injured or just didn't feel it worth making the trip to the US. Sofia is not playing doubles this week.
Katie seems to have won pretty comfortably, 6-4 6-0.
Her potential R2 opponents are on court now - 5th seed Sramkova (who Hev beat easily in FC the other week) is currently 6-2 *4-2 up on Naomi Osaka's sister Mari (who Tara retired against in Qs).
Edit - Sramkova it is.

Tara after withdrawing from her qualifying singles yet again this week, has also risen from the dead once more and won her first round doubles match with Emina 6-3 6-2
