Week 8 - ATP 500 - Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships - UAE (hard)

Dan is in the main draw singles but for now we just have the doubles draw. For top seeds Joe & Rajeev don't have the kindest opener, even though the pairing they play don't play much doubles in general but are top singles players - and one is the very top of players.

 

L16: (1) Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury WR 11 (6+5) vs Marin Cilic & Novak Djokovic (CRO/SRB) WR 582 (444+138)

L16: Jurgen Melzer & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (AUT/FRA) WR 53 (36+17) vs Jamie Murray & Neal Skupski WR 55 (26+29)

L32: Daniel Evans WR 31 (=CH) vs (4) Fabio Fognini (ITA) WR 11 (CH = 9 last year)

No head to head. Might be interesting as both are...temperamental on court.

 Disappointing straight sets loss for Jamie and Neal. This pairing isnt really making the moves we all hoped, it will be interesting to see if they take it through Wimbledon if results dont pick up.

3-6 was a break down in the second but has just broken back. Fabio starting to get rattled.

Evo cutting back the errors and breaks to take the second set 3-6 6-4
Evo has been getting pushed quite far back, not as many net approaches as usual, the courts look pretty quick

I think Evo has family (his cousin, James is it?) in Dubai so presumably got a few fans in the crowd?

very nice 28 degrees C and 47% humidity out in Dubai, good weather for top class tennis I would say!
