Can anyone please explain to me why Brydan is in the main draw but James has to play qualifying when the latter has the higher ranking? Thank you.

Because Brydan entered and James didn't. Qualifying is on site sign in. The only reason James is in Australia is because of ATP Cup as a last minute call to replace Andy so he wouldn't have had this tournament on his original schedule.

Which also explains why the last DA was WR1026 and James is in qualifying. Fortunately there are only four in qualifying with the two spots going to unseeded players, Sinclair (NMI) WR623 and Caruana WR537

The top qualifying seed, Nishioka WR 72, would have been 2nd seed in the MD if he had entered as per schedule.

Reasons why neither are in my top 10 for the year... Wonder how much James will actually play?

(I know the year is still early, but can't say either inspires me with any confidence these days)

Phew, would be good for Jonny and Arevalo to get some game time this week, so this is welcome, as they play in AO together next week

I thought that we agreed to not change thread titles to "doubles" when there was just GB doubles players remaining but there had been GB singles players.

Whatever, I don't think we should change such titles. These threads are records as well as live threads for the week.

And Jaggy might be desperate to see how James Ward's singles has gone but leave this "doubles" thread well alone

I know we have been there before, but I still think just one thread per event, regardless of singles or doubles is worthwhile, surely the snowflakes could survive that?
