Yes, closer than it should have been. I think for a player like Sadiq she doesn't get out of India much (played twice in China in Sept), and therefore may have a little more ability than her ranking shows. Next up Freya plays an older, more experienced player, but conversely since she has torn up no trees in her career Freya might be expected to get through more easily.

QR1: CHRISTIE, Freya (GBR) [5] 669 def SADIQ, Soha (IND) UNR 7-5 2-6 10-5

FQR: CHRISTIE, Freya (GBR) [5] 669 vs Ashmitha EASWARAMURTHI (IND) [q13] 998 (CH:769)

Worse than that, Freya was 5-0*, and lost the next six games before breaking at 5-6* to take it to the tiebreak. Served 4 DF's at *5-5 as well !

Tough looking draw for Freya, up against the 4th seed Muramatsu who is pretty much at a career high of 266, and has had some decent wins in recent weeks, including fringe top 100 Pri Hon.

The older Indian player who Freya beat in the FQR got in as a LL and drew a MDWC.

There were 2 LL spots, and one must have been for Naiktha as she is not in the draw. EWS has drawn Topalova who has had a few puns on here before.

Emily definitely has the better draw and chance here. Wily wisdom vs a good young player..

Ah. I would still be happier to see Naiktha add a few more points before the Aus Open qualifying cut-off.

She probably will make it OK and the main thing for now is just hope nothing serious regarding her late withdrawal

Naiktha has had a busy week so probably wants to recharge the batteries - thought the Aussie cut-off was a couple of weeks off?

Yes, the qualifying cut-off will be the rankings of 23/12.

Was just thinking the lateness of her withdrawal might be a slight concern. But hopefully not and maybe she did just ultimately decide to take the week off.

Naiktha is in an Indian 25K on 2/12. The only 25K for next week is Solarino - a bit of a trek Hopefully she is OK. pray.gif
