I was thinking I was going to open this thread to then quickly close it, and be unlikely to return, but a very nice surprise that it's Emma. I thought her season was done after the last couple of withdrawals. It'll be nice to see if she can go on a run here.
Emma is playing now... Just one break so far, that to Emma, who leads *5-4, but there is MTO now after her opponent has just held serve. I hope no more problems for Emma.
Emma has avoided a seed and plays 23 year old Italian Deborah Chiesa in R1 (I'm not sure if she is related to the Chiesa who our youngsters have had mixed fortunes with in Greece). She's been inside the top 150 before and I remember being quite surprised at the time when Katie S beat her in USO quals last year, but she's now ranked 395 and is in awful form having lost her last 6 matches, or 11 of her last 12, so hopefully that trend continues.
