Jay won 6-3 3-6 6-3.

Bit closer than I'd have expected given the rankings gap and the fact that Tanuma had had a 3 setter yesterday that went to a 3rd set breaker, but at least he's picking up wins again.

Saville was always going to be an ask for an out of form Brydan (when was last time he was in form though?).

Ramanathan will be a good test for Jay and to see where he is at. Tennis Abstract rates it as 53-47 in Ramanathan's favour, but pretty tight and feels like it could go either way.

Not so tight after all - Jay lost 3 and 3.

Winning against much lower ranked players at the moment but not seeming to give those around the same ranking too many problems cry

Yes, Jay has in the past had a comparatively pretty good record against top 200 opponents, but not really threatening them of late.

Indeed, since he beat Noah Rubin WR 182 at Wimbledon, he has only beaten one top 500 player ( WR 384 in his first tournament after Wimbledon st the end of July ).

It is good to see him playing more regularly again and winning some matches but he appears still some way off his best. Hopefully a well focussed close season and a new year reboot can markedly improve things.
