I was on holiday with my wife and daughter in Naples in late May and went to take a look at the ASC facility. It is quite a strange place, Naples is a well to do part of Florida, lots of tourism but of a more up market kind than Disney and older than say Miami. The Academy is out of Town not far from the Airport , maybe 8 miles, 15 mins from the old Downtown part of Naples, where 5th Avenue and 3rd Street Historic District are. They probably have over 20 courts in total I would guess, and all but 4 of those from what I saw are the old grey , Har tru clay court. Like an asphalt , quite slippy, slicker than clay. They certainly arent the clay we know and love and although this event is badged clay it is Har Tru for sure.

The grounds are more run down than I expected, the club house a little less celebrious than Naples typically would expect, a little tender loving care and maybe a good lick of paint would help!

Here is a photo of the Florida site; Sanchez (those who remember Arantxa will remember she had two brothers, Emilio and Javier; Emilio partnered Sergio Casal to several big titles and the two set this site up and 3 more in California, Atlanta and one now in China it seems

I know that we're back on ATP points now (halleluyah).

But just to note that this qualification means 3 ITF points for Giles and Matthis.

Matthis is born 2001, so still a junior, and unranked in both ATP and ITF. So that's a nice step up for him.

And playing another qualifier in the MD, he's in with a shout to get his MD wind and first ATP point too.

Giles has a far tougher ask with the third seed.....
