ITF Strategy

We have a strategy post for the LTA, so why not one for the ITF too...

The International Tennis Federation has today published the Global Tennis Report 2019, the largest survey of worldwide tennis participation and performance ever undertaken in the sport.

The report contains data gathered from 195 tennis nations to give a game-changing insight into the global tennis landscape. Both global and national findings are presented in the report facilitating analysis of global and regional trends. Key findings include:

- 87 million tennis players (1.17% of worlds population)
- 71,263 tennis clubs
- 489,135 tennis courts
- 163,548 coaches
- 47% of players are female

The interesting point here is the end -

"Gerard [Pique] really wants to be innovative, he wants to really provide an incentive for the players to come and do something different, which is not week in week out on tour events.

It reads like Pique and Kosmos have all of the rights to take these forwards, have they got the ITF sewn up?

The winner takes all event, where on earth does that fit? It feels like it is going back to the 70's and the time of WCT and the various "Shoot Outs" , "Caesars Palace Challenge" "$100,000 winner takes all h2h (Connors v Newcombe, Connors v Rosewall), the Pepsi Grand Slam (4 player event in Boca Raton between the 4 slam winners or slam winners and invited other big name if not 4). All about TV and money. All interesting, dont get me wrong, but none survived and had longevity and all meaningless in the anals of tennis history...

Looks like the ITF are updating their website today. It wouldn't load at all for a while, but now I'm getting a homepage, but not tournament lists. Have to wait and see !

If this doesn't make you laugh, you have no sense of humour!

It's a great story but I really don't see what the 'betting problem' is here.

Bet365 got the odds wrong. Other punters didn't bet enough to correct the odds.

There was no hidden trick, or cheating.

I often bet (my mega 20ps!) on qualifiers because the whole point down at that end is that the rankings aren't correct and you can have a strong opinion on what players rankings 'should' be. It's more than whether they're on form on not, or whether they like that surface or not (i.e. the more normal things that matter when you're betting on guys in the top 250, say). And it's often on 'inside' knowledge insofar as you've seen them play a Tour event, say, and other people (not surprisingly) haven't.

There was never any chance of that guy winning, it wasn't staged, he's just a complete beginner. If other punters didn't know that they can't complain.
