Gabi's going down to W15 level this week to try and gain some wins... She shouldn't struggle her first match.

Good plan. If she can win a couple of matches it can change things very quickly. Confidence is a significant component of success, just look at Heather and on the other end of the scale, Kyle atm.

Yes it certainly wasn't convincing that's for sure. Most of the first round singles matches are up tomorrow. Gabi will hope for a cleaner and quicker win then.

Yes, that was the gentlest of gentle matches for Gabi. Gabi's next opponent has just done the same as her - after reaching a CH end of last year, Gabric has played a run of matches in W25 and above and lost nearly all of then, so last week and this she has also stepped back down to W15 level. Today she lost in a tight 3-setter to the WR 833. Really Gabi should have far too much for her too.

R32: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) [1] 373 def BAYKAN, Ilayda (TUR) [WC] UNR/UNR 17yo 6-1 6-0

R16: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) [1] 373 vs Anna GABRIC (GER) [Q] 935 (CH:530 Dec 18)

The sobering news for Gabi here is that even if she wins the tournament this week, she will still be -19 pts for the week, as she has 29 coming off for reaching the Bendigo (AUS) W60 final this time last year. This means her ranking will fall into the 400s even if she manages to win this week. The good news for Gabi however is that these are the last points coming off till she loses 30 pts end of March next year. So thankfully, after this last fall, the only path left will be up again, assuming she is able to stay fit for a while now.

Interesting next match for Gabi. Alya Aksu looked down and out agains the 6th seed in her earlier match, was a set and 0-3 down. Then had a MTO, which I assumed was for her, but maybe not, as she then recovered to win the 2nd and 3rd sets. Her CH is way above her current ranking. She's had an injury too and this is her first tournament back since March, so, if she is fully fit, her match with Gabi could be an interesting one.

R16: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) [1] 373 def Anna GABRIC (GER) [Q] 935 (CH:530 Dec 18) 6-0 6-2

QF: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) [1] 373 vs Ayla AKSU (TUR) 953 (CH:214 Sept 17)
