Week 33 - ITF (W25+H) - Leipzig, Germany - Clay

I'm still waiting to see the singles MD here, but in the doubles Emily App is playing with Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues ALVES (BRA). Emily has had Brazilian partners before but cannot remember if Carolina is someone she has played with before. They play the Morderger sisters first up.

MD has now appeared for me. Emily draws another IR entrant, which is as favourable for her second week in a row as she could have hoped for.

R32: Emily APPLETON (GBR) [IR] 597/18 vs Vanda LUKACS (HUN) [IR] 556/24 (CH:369 March 17)

As far as I can see, Emily has never played with or against Carolina.

Fran played her in singles last year, and one or two others in doubles a while ago. Looks quite a good doubles partner -made a W60 final and a W25 final recently

Well Emily has won her R16 doubles match with Carolina against the Morderger twins 6-4 6-1

Possibly the 2nd seeds in the QF, their R16 match is up next.

Well somehow the 2nd seeds contrived to lose in a MTB where they were 7-1, 9-7 and 10-9 up, but eventually lost it 12-10 to the Czech pair who will play Emily and Carolina instead.

QF: Emily APPLETON/ Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues ALVES (GBR/BRA) 690 (305+385) vs Petra KREJSOVA/ Jesika MALECKOVA (CZE/CZE) 883 (515/368)

Emily having to play with borrowed kit

Thanks @eurowings
- all luggage lost en route from London to Leipzig. 1st match today. No kit, no racquets, nothing - any suggestions - apart from "renting" as u advised on the phone! Pls find our bags today - @ejappleton14
needs her stuff urgently

Still no sign of any luggage - really poor @eurowings
. @ejappleton14
having to play pro matches in borrowed shoes and using borrowed racquets @eurowings
please find our bags or at least tell us which country they are in

Just now
@ejappleton14
Not usually a complainer but @eurowings
are actually useless! Both bags have been lost which had all my rackets, shoes, clothes and many other needed items. The fact that @eurowings
can't even locate the bags is so poor. Not good preparation for a professional tennis tournament!

Wow, that is extremely useless and pathetic for a Lufthansa associated airlines. Every traveller's fear - losing luggage, and considering that tennis equipment is not exactly unnoticeable luggage, and it was tagged properly, you'd think even a budget airline would have some method for tracking items. Imagine they will owe compensation, but that is indeed useless for coping with an immediate tournament. Not an airline to be recommended then. no

Having failed miserably at 25k, Emily has a second win in two weeks.

Well another week another first round win for Emily, her second MD W25 win now in successive weeks! She saw out a tight final set, coming from 0-40 down in the 9th game to break and have a chance to serve out for the match. Faced with her first MP she double faulted, her first DF of the set, and then saved 2 BPs, before gaining a second MP which she won. So she's managing to keep things tight at the pressure points of a match, which is a positive sign. Also, this win over a player of similar ranking to herself, has tended to be the type of match that Emily has NOT won before, so all in all this represents an encouraging success

8th seed next and a free hit. Play without pressure.

R32: Emily APPLETON (GBR) [IR] 597/18 def Vanda LUKACS (HUN) [IR] 556/24 (CH:369 March 17) 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4

R16: Emily APPLETON (GBR) [IR] 597/18 vs Jule NIEMEIER (GER) [8] 325 (CH:301 July 19)

Broken through the barrier at last ! Two tournaments in a row. Hopefully this is the start of a move up the rankings.

Our girls clearly need more trauma in their lives.

Heather a 12 hour flight delay and hardly any sleep last week. Emily her bags going totally missing this week.

Anyway, good to see that win from Emily. And has she been reaquainted with her own gear?

Let's hope so she's been trying hard for a while now so some repayment for the hardwork.
