Tiff is the second seed this week but her first round draw is NOT a good one, since Sada Nahimana was last week's losing finalist. Nahimana also has an interesting back story, coming from Burundi, a still very conflict ridden country. But she was part of a small group of players there who was initially encouraged, coached and equipped by a personal friend who was based there, and was responsible for their early development. I believe she is based out of Kenya now, and has more official backing, though I'm not up with the current details of her support. Nahimana has played in all the junior grand slam tournaments this year. Last week she was 8th seed and had several close matches until the final, when she did lose relatively easily in the final to the top seed, Mahak Jain, who also beat Tiff easily in the QF. It will likely be a much more competitive match for Tiff in her first round than she will have hoped for. Jain is again top seed this week.
R32: Tiffany WILLIAM (GBR) [2] vs Sada NAHIMANA (BDI) UNR Born 2001 (JCH:12 July 19)
Nahimana marches on. SHe has now taken out the 5th seed in the QF 6-2 6-3. She will finally get a ranking next week, and the week after if she reaches the final here she will be on the same number of points as Tiffany - 18. I expect her to go higher a little more quickly. Good luck to her, as said in the first post, she is a real good news story from a country that is very short of such.
Yes, I'm surprised they played it actually because Paulina retired after losing the first set of her singles match to Fiona Codino, who I thought she would beat. So I thought she might well withdraw from their doubles, and it would certainly be appear that she was hampered in the match. A shame after their winning week last week.
