Andy will be ok as he doesnt have many points to defend before Wimbledon and the equalisation of all the Covid points wont harm him. He has also said he will work his schedule round it. I dont think its impossible for Andy to be seeded by Wimbledon, tall order but certainly top 50 isnt that far off. One or two decent tournaments.
Yes, as Jaggy says Andy has very little to defend before the grass season. Just 93 points ( 48 this week from the Biella Challenger 2021 and 45 in March from Rotterdam 2021).
So in fact the short term is good with Andy's points drop offs considerably more weighted to later in the year. In particular no clay points to add but none to come off and overall other players could be dropping more clay points than they add. Playing some clay tournaments could have helped his ranking, not playing shouldn't negatively effect it.
In the very short term I guess he could drop out pf the top 100 with these 93 points coming off if he adds nothing in the meantime because the points are quite close around the WR 100 mark. But generally it won't take too much for good upwards progress.
The rankings are interesting near the top 100 as its actually easier to get from say 100 to 70 in the rankings than 120 to 100 in some respects. Liam might find I think if he breaks the top 100 that he will be able to climb to 70-80 if he makes it.
Whilst I agree with the above, my concern is Andy only has currently the highly leveraged events in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai, IW and Miami to play before the clay season, which he will skip. So April and May and half of June will have no events currently, unless he chooses to play a few challenger hardcourt events in the clay season to swoop for some points and to maintain match play.
I think Andy if he is ranked 60-100 or even below will play a couple hard court challengers. He has said he will schedule accordingly and having over 2 months off makes no sense at this stage. Unless of course he somehow goes deep in all these tournaments in Feb and March and somehow ends up back in the top 32 in which case it will be well earned.
I do think from a rankings perspective Andy has chosen the more difficult route for the next few weeks. The draws are stacked at the tournaments he is entered into whereas the ATP events in America right now are reasonably open. His mentality may be that playing tougher opposition is better for the development of his game as he seeks to get closer to his old self but it is high risk as he could well find himself going out at the first hurdle in successive tournaments as opposed to going deep at a place like Dallas and the obvious benefits of multiple matches played and also ranking points earned.
Now we're only in the 6th week of the year but I thought it worth a litttle mention that we currently have 6 players in the live race top 100 indicating a generally very decent start to the season by our top players.
14. Dan 350 points ( not playing this week ) 27. Andy 240 ( L16 so far in Rottetdam 500 ) 68. Cam 100 ( QF so far in Rotterdam 500 ) 81. Jack 87 ( L16 so far in Cherbourg 80 ) 85. Jay 78 ( lost in R1 in Bengaluru 80 ) 92. Liam 74 ( qualified and made L16 in Dallas 250 )
I make it that there are only 4 countries with more players in this early race top 100.
1. France 10 2. USA 9 3. Spain 8 4. Argentina 7 5. GB 6 5. Russia 6

We have the daft situation of players like Kyle and James Ward going up 10-15 places, despite neither having played for almost two years or whatever - completely ridiculous. And Stuart has slipped out of the top-500.
BUT, leaving the negatives aside, Jack Draper is our 'star' - age 20 and +39 to ATP 162. In addition, a big jump up for Ali Gray, and new CHs for lots (remember, Glasgow's points aren't on yet), including a lot of teenagers with significant jumps, like Jack PJ, Felix, Harry W, Blu, and Oliver Tarvet
