Good to see Fran giving this level a go particularly on clay.

So far Fran has only won 2/6 service games, which is not going to help her get in front.

Yes she held only 2 service games in each set and saved only 1/7 BPs. Gives here a good idea of what she needs to work on, but good to see Fran trying out at this level.

That, of course, might be partly because her opponent was returning amazingly.

But 13 DFs, with 3 DFs in the last game, certainly seems to imply a problem with the second serve (Goldsmith says the first serve was great)

Fran Jones out of WTA Bucharest qualies. 13 double faults, 3 in her last service game her downfall today. Great learning experience and very competitive with fantastic first serve % won.

1st serve % both Fran and Di Giuseppe won 68%, but Fran had only a 48% first serve % (against 53% for Di G)

Yes, so the second serve was the real failing and the real difference.

The point at 5-7 6-2 0-0 15-40* seems to be a rather long one

Naiktha's result is now up - no injury, thankfully, but despite both players winning the same number of games (16) and the same number of points (97), Xu edged it 7-5 2-6 7-5
