Week 28 - ITF (W100) - Contrexeville, France - Clay

Emily is in qualifying in France, as is Sofia, so expect them to be in the doubles too. If Emily can win this match, potentially Caroline Werner [q4] WR 409 next. For a 100k those are not bad draws to reach the MD. It is clay of course...

QR1: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [q10] 508 vs Vivien JUHASZOVA (SVK) 678 (CH:374 Feb 17)

Edited to change title

Not a very strong qualifying for a W100 at all. Must be a few missing from the main draw acceptance list as well.

Emily is playing now and a set and a break down, so doesn't look like she will be gaining any singles points.

In the doubles though she and Sofia are 3rd seeds and have a bye in the first round. Not sure that's a good thing, means they have to win their QF match now to gain any points... and they are in the top half of the draw and so potentially meet the top seeds in the SF.

Yes even in a weak draw Em needed a bit more help to get 4 singles points on the devil dust!

Well beaten 61 61 but 6 games did go to deuce.

Didn't expect to see so many gaps in the doubles draw, but a big match mid-week for either 50 points or none.

Yes Emily has completed her warm up for the doubles now... She'll be glad that's over with.

QR1: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [q10] 508 lost to Vivien JUHASZOVA (SVK) 678 (CH:374 Feb 17) 1-6 1-6

I note that next week Emily is in qualifying for a hardcourt W80 in Kazakhstan, whilst Sofia is staying for a similar to this week W80 clay event in France. Sofia won her QR1 easily here so would appear to have rather more affinity for the surface.

Broke 3 times but only held once to drop the opening set 6-4.

Now a medical timeout midway through the second

QF (bye): (3) Sofia Shapatava (GEO) & Emily Webley-Smith CR 398 (186+212) def Sofya Lansere & Kamilla Rakhimova (RUS/RUS) CR 894 (355+539) 4-6 6-4 10-5 smile

Must admit I was slightly concerned by the MTO report, since Sofia had a tough singles match earlier today.

Emily has 15 each to come off from Lexington and Landisville (net -6) which she has now more than covered. She doesn't lose any more counters until January next year. A great week and a good opportunity to hike her doubles ranking biggrin

Yes, now just one of the Lexington and Landisville 15 pointers will be a counter so just net 6 points ( with 9 points that can come in ). Next is 18 points ( net 9 ) in February and that's it re counters until next April !

Those on the whole scores from April on now make Em, adding in her 50 points so far here, the 2nd highest GB player for points scored this year. With Sofia she is live #57 in the doubles partnerships race.

2019 doubles points :

1. Harriet  508 (from 11)

2. Emily W-S   379 ( max 11)  - in total 402 (18)

3. Harriet  352 (9)

4. Eden 348 (11)

Overall, as said, back into the top 200, one of 8 GB players in the top 200 ( #1 Heather will drop out of the top 100 with last year's Wimby points dropping out ). And indeed now such a base to keep pushing that ranking up

The last 9 pointer for Emily which replaces Landisville is (start date)

HONG KONG, HONG KONG, CHINA    25K    January 1, 2019

So she will have until mid-Jan to wrack up 9 points. Not sure what the odds will be on that! One more win SF in France gives her another 35.

Nice to see her doing well  biggrin

She's actually fine even with the Hong Kong 9 points in January though as you suggest I am sure she will have added further counters by then anyway.

Counting this week's 50 points so far, she will now in 2019 have 10 scores of 18 or more plus 3 scores of 9 ( the Hong Kong '9' plus other '9s' due off on 30/03 and 06/04 ).

The 18 points due off in February can then be partially offset by the remaining spare 9 and then the first 9 that could be a true counter is the one due off at 30/03 ( OK, close to my statement that the next possible counter after February would be April ).

Anyway, again hopefully just theoretical since she'll be adding plenty more points in the meantime, won't you Em

Em for GB doubles #1!

To note that the top seeds who Em and Sofia face next thrashed their QF opponents today (and deleted the line up since the addict has already posted it!).
