Very disappointing that the forum should loose the oracle on Harrogate Town FC, absolutely gutted! It would be a bit like Leeds loosing Kalvin Phillips. I have to be honest the occasional puerile post (or in my case most posts) keeps me sane when the intensity of work is proving a distraction.

BTW, Did I mention in my leaving a while back, my son got his degree results, and got a first class degree from Oxford Univ for PPE degree at Trinity. Much joy in the JonH household i can happily admit, not quite sure where the brains came from! Ha!

Now looking for place to live down in the smoke, starts a job in late September as a Civil Servant on the fast track grad scheme, welcome to the real world!

So our holiday in Mallorca turned out to be a happy time of too much Rosado and Cava and lots of good laughs!

Huge congratulations to your son.  That is an amazing achievement.  I am so far down in the educational stakes I don't even know what PPE is LOL.

Ha! Politics, Philosophy and Economics. In his case P and P and not so much E as he didnt enjoy that element (too mathsy, although he is good at maths as it happens).

PPE is what folks like Ed Balls, Milliband, Cameron and many others have done. Not saying he will get there but good names to follow in the footsteps of!

The Oh dear, Balls and Cameron? Are you sure. What a legacy. One famous for dancing a parody of a South Korean novelty chart buster (our birdy song equivalent and the later for committing the nation to political hari kari on the world stage.

He has however moved on to much better things. An excellent training scheme you must be so chuffed. I have much more faith in the unelected civil servants who by hook or by crook keep the country on as even a keel as possible.

Having met a few senior civil servants the vast majority are extremely intelligent both intellectually and emotionally. I am very jealous of their selection process (which strikes me as being incredibly effective) particularly the successful use of psychometric testing which is extremely challenging to get into my profession. Paradoxically probity and professionalism are implicit but the prospect of actively selecting for it is terrifying for those that are capable of making it happen.
