Fran has taken the first set 7-6(2), she did have a fairly healthy lead earlier when I checked, but over the line now.

Big win that for Fran in the end. Plays one of the three Ekaterina Makarova's who are professional tennis players next.

Nice win for Fran - although I was expecting her to beat middle Makarova comfortably anyway. Next match will be more of a test if Bjorklund comes through later today.

It's going to be a really tough match next whoever she plays. Bjorklund vs Kan. Kan is the player someone on here referenced was destined for the top 100 before injuries took over when she beat Gabi very comfortably a few weeks ago. Since then she lost to Bjorklund in a 3 setter and then reached a W25 SF, before giving a walkover. I remember Bjorklund actually being the favourite against Katy Dunne when they met in Portugal in April (but she lost). Since then she won a fairly strong W25, and in her last event lost 6-1 5-7 4-6 to Voegele who is in and around the top 100.

Fran of course won a title last week and is on a 7 match winning streak herself, but bar maybe Christian, this is the worst section he could have landed in and will likely be her toughest match in these 2 weeks, but 9 points in the bag whatever happens.

Yeah, she's certainly more familiar to me sharing that name and I was always under the impression that she was just competent on the W15 scene, but a bit limited higher up, especially when Eden gave her a bagel earlier in the year, but her results have picked up a bit recently and she did beat Bondar the other week and put out the 4th seed who has also won a 25k in the past few weeks.

Kan is actually the very slight 8/11 favourite in that Bjorklund match, despite losing in 3 the last time they played, so it'll likely be tough either way.
