Week 24 - ATP 250 - Mercedes Cup - Stuttgart, Germany (grass) - doubles

The ATP live scoreboard actually spells it "Suttgart"!

L16:  Félix Auger-Aliassime & Hubert Hurkacz (CAN/POL) UNR (0+421) vs Luke Bambridge & Jonny O'Mara CR 85 (41+44)

The lads arent on today's schedule sadly. I often feel the doubles players must spend so much time waiting around at these events to play, a max of 4 matches over 7 days and not much longer than an hour, hour and a half tops. Guess it pays the bills

Have they dodged a potential bullet?

L16:  (ALT) Matteo Berrettini & Marton Fucsovics (ITA/HUN) CR 341 (118+223) vs Luke Bambridge & Jonny O'Mara CR 97 (47+50)

Fucsovics plays pretty decent doubles, albeit they are clay specialists really. I would hope Luke and Jonny can handle them

Let's put it on record:

L16:  Luke Bambridge & Jonny O'Mara CR 97 (47+50) defeated (ALT) Matteo Berrettini & Marton Fucsovics (ITA/HUN) CR 341 (118+223) by 3-6 6-3 [10-3]

Fucsovics must have been a bit tired after his 2¼-hour match against the fourth seed in the singles, Basilashvili, which he won.

*****

QF:  Luke Bambridge & Jonny O'Mara CR 97 (47+50) vs Nick Kyrgios & Matt Reid (AUS/AUS) CR 266 (168+98)

It should in theory have been the Croatian second seeds, Mektic & Skugor, but the Aussie pair beat them in three sets yesterday.  Bops & Shapo removed another potential barrier to the boys' passage to the final when they beat the Bryans (3) in three sets.

Luke and Jonny sadly went down very tamely to Kyrgios and Reid, so our Stuttgart tournie is over

Pity but no doubt Nick is very underranked in doubles if his mind is half on it.

No ranking points move for either Luke or Jonny since an ATP 250 QF corresponds to their current lowest counters of 45.

Not Brit related but as this thread is here, worth mentioning that Dustin Brown knocked out top seed Alex Zverev in the singles.

FAA seems to play well on all surfaces. Playing dimitrov at queens , shapo plays delpo and raonic plays, assuming fit although that must be a doubt?
