Entries Week 24 - 10/06/19

Speaking of which, Katie Swan has withdrawn from Manchester within the last 30 mins, so hope that means a Nottingham MDWC after all rather than still not ready to compete.

Harriet now out of Manchester, and like Katie S, hopefully that's due to a 3rd Nottingham MDWC (along with Naiktha), but either of them could be due to injury/health.

I have a suspicion the Katie Swan is at home at the moment, so won't be playing.

The Manchester entry list has been updated now, so it's now: Watson (Dunne, Burrage, Taylor, Lumsden).

Maia is currently last in, with Naomi 5th alt, then there's a slew of Brits from 8th alt onwards.

It's still 3 short in the main draw (only up to 17), so that will push Naomi up to 2nd alt and the SE's won't affect her, so that will see Naomi into qualifying - although she's probably going to get a MDWC here anyway. Those 4 in Michael's brackets will very likely get a MDWC at either Manc or Nottm (depending on Swan and Dart), one might get a Notts QWC if there's no room, which will in turn see the alt list go down further and Alicia should also be in Manc quals directly. There's definitely going to be a lot more Brits playing next week, which is great.

Manchester is a lot weaker than Surbiton and Ilkley.

I wonder, what with all the withdrawals from Nottingham over the last couple of days, whether this wd from Manc was because she made it into qualifying in Nottingham, although I've no idea if she was on the list. On the other hand if she had entered Notts I would have thought she'd have been assured earlier of a WC of some description.

Yeah, I think the latter. With Katie B out and Heather committed to Manchester, there's not too many realistic Nottingham MDWCs, so you'd think Swan would be 2nd in command behind Harriet but ahead of the others. Last year Gabi and Katie B had been announced for a while and Stosur had already received her top 20 WC by now, but it's pretty late here - the qualifying draw should be tomorrow shouldn't it? I guess they're sweating on the fitness of a few players. Would be nice if we got 3 MDWCs instead of 2 like last year, especially as Stosur didn't really add anything to the event - they had the inevitable 'great news' press release, but it was pretty annoying actually as she's not really a big name and hasn't been relevant (in singles) for years.

Swan's ranking would fit in with getting into quals as KL Zhang is last in there at 185 and I think she was last in yesterday, but Potapova has since withdrawn, so I don't think it's updated the alt list. I also see Jaukupovic pulled out of Manchester today and is 1st alt in Nottm.

Looking at the weather, Manchester and Nottingham both looking pretty wet all week next week...could be a tough one.

Sarah Beth Grey has posted on Instagram, along with coach Edward Taylor - they are in Nottingham.

Anyone know when the Nottingham Q draw is due? I remember watching Katie S in her qualifiers last year, so hopefully they are streamed again.

Thanks. I doubt there will be a top 20 wildcard now at this stage. Wouldn't be a huge shock to me if they just went next in and only use 2 WCs. Jakupovic withdrawing from Manchester yesterday and still being one out might be a clue.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't come up with a full quota of MD WCs even if that may be seen as sending some Brits to the wolves. But we shall see ...

I'd like to think they'd use their allocation of 3 (if no late top 20), especially with the relatively few Brits playing this week, as even a potential WC vs WC would at least guarantee someone a win and 30 precious points, but I've just got a feeling. You're probably right though and hope you are.

The only way Jakupovic wouldn't make the main draw as next in would be if both Top 20 WCs were taken. I think, given no announcements, that is unlikely.
